Plain Truth
Plain Truth | Jodi Picoult
From the bestselling author of My Sister's Keeper comes the riveting story of a murder that shatters the picturesque calm of Amish country -- and tests the heart and soul of the lawyer defending the woman at the center of the storm. The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that eighteen-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life. When Ellie Hathaway, a disillusioned big-city attorney, comes to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to defend Katie, two cultures collide -- and for the first time in her high-profile career, Ellie faces a system of justice very different from her own. Delving deep inside the world of those who live "plain," Ellie must find a way to reach Katie on her terms. And as she unravels a tangled murder case, Ellie also looks deep within -- to confront her own fears and desires when a man from her past reenters her life.

This book was really good. Interesting to learn about the Amish as well as a mystery with a twist. Definitely worth a read!

I‘ve always been very curious about the Amish. This book was a gem and it was very apparent that the author thoroughly researched the Amish and their ways.

I‘ve never tabbed or highlighted a book as much as I did with this one.

This is my second Picoult book and I‘m so glad there are so many more to read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was good, a bit slow through most of it, but even so, I liked the story enough that I was close to rating it 4 stars. The very end made up my mind to give it that extra boost up to 4. Because Ellie ended up living on Katie‘s farm with her and her family (part of the bail conditions), it was interesting to learn a lot more about Amish culture.

When a newborn baby is discovered dead in an Amish barn, the unmarried 18 year old daughter is immediately pegged as a suspect. But she can‘t remember what happened and there don‘t seem to be any other witnesses.

#7books7days Day 6

My first Jodi Picoult really left an impression on me. I‘m no longer such a fan but for a while I really tore through her novels. But still this first one is the one I think about.

Great read. I'm always interested in the Amish Community, and what they believe and how they live in today's world.

The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes the community to it's core. The investigation suggests that a eighteen year old girl is responsible. Which she denies.
Great read you will love it

A beautiful story hails from the Amish village intermingling their passive subtle lifestyles and traditions.
A child was born and killed; the mother unaware of it.
As the story unfolds so does the moral upbringings and culture differences that gets questioned.

I don't know why I even bother to make up reading plans for the month, when I'm so easily distracted. 🙄 Latest distraction. I'm on chapter nineteen, and enjoying it very much. Jodi Picoults are entertaining, fast reads for me.

GinEyre22 @CouronneDhiver , Picoult isn't my jam - I read it because I grew up in Lancaster, PA - but you should try it. The Lifetime movie with Mariska Hargitay is bananas! 7y

Can't wait to get out of work so I can go shopping! Savers already sells their used books at amazing prices (typically from .99 cents - 1.99) and today and tomorrow they are 50% off. My plan is to give myself a spending limit. Maybe I'll take cash out and leave the cards at home. Do you ever have to give yourself a spending limit monthly when it comes to books?

Parts of it were so incredibly frustrating. Not in the way that's annoying, but in a way that makes you want to keep reading to see how the conflicts are resolved. Also, GREAT unexpected (unless you're good at predicting them like myself) ending. Highly recommend.

Love a good murder mystery (Salem falls is still my favorite by JP though). However Jodi Picoult always reminds me of a PG-13 rated version of Gillian Flynn. I dig it.
