Other Woman | Daniel Silva

Hey everybody! I need book recs for my dads birthday! He really likes Peter Swanson‘s plots and characters and likes Daniel Silva. He writes his own stories and is very picky about what he likes, but likes mysteries and poetry. I think he has read all of Poe/Christie as they are classics. We also found Noah Boyd who he really liked, but the guy only wrote about 3-4 books. Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you! 📚📚 #pickyreader #hardtochoose

Mollyanna I would recommend the Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry. Malone is a former government operative who retired to Copenhagen to run a book store. He keeps getting pulled back into his old world though. 3y
ImperfectCJ Maybe something by Tana French? Her newest is a standalone about a retired detective from Chicago who moves to Ireland. 3y
Ruthiella If he hasn‘t already read them, I suggest the two Hawthorn books by Anthony Horowitz: The Word is Murder and The Sentence is Death. 3y

Laughterhp That‘s what I was going to recommend @Ruthiella 3y
Ruthiella @Laughterhp Great minds! 😂 I think Horowitz is a good match for Peter Swanson. 3y
shortsarahrose More along the classic Christie side of things, but the Lord Peter Wimsy mysteries by Dorthy Sayers are enjoyable 3y
TheLudicReader If you can find books by Thomas H. Cook, he writes literary mysteries with amazing twists. 3y
bio_chem06 Have you read the 2 S.A. Cosby books that are out? They‘re not thrillers but they are really good suspense and the stories are both great. He‘s become one of my favorite authors for non fiction & I can‘t wait to read more that he writes. I read both books in a weekend because they are page turners. 3y
katy4peas @Mollyanna that‘s a new one I haven‘t heard of. Thanks! 3y
katy4peas @ImperfectCJ I don‘t think he has read her yet. Thanks! 3y
katy4peas @Ruthiella @Laughterhp I loved those two! He may have read one of them. 🤔 I‘ll have to check. Thanks! 3y
katy4peas @shortsarahrose Ooo, I recognize her name. I‘ll check those out. Thanks! 3y
katy4peas @TheLudicReader that‘s a new name for me. Those sound fun. Thanks! 3y
katy4peas @bio_chem06 no, those are new ones to me. Those could be great for him. He liked Devil in the White City which also has the nonfiction aspect. I‘ll have to check those out. Thanks! 3y
bio_chem06 @katy4peas I miss typed, they are fiction 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3y
katy4peas @bio_chem06 ha! No worries! They still sound good! Thank you!😊 3y

Another in the series with Gabriel Allon, who is an art restorer and head of the Israeli secret service. He and his team are out to find out who killed an important asset inside Russian intelligence. I liked this one as there is lots of information about the infamous spy Kim Philby and the Cambridge Five. #books

Coffee and a good spy thriller: a perfect combination on a rainy day.

This one was a bit slow to get going for me and i was 50% in before the story pulled me in. I trusted Silva to get there. Then got a bit lost down the rabbit hole of the Cambridge spies! I liked how the plot wove all that together. A pick eventually.

Cinfhen I gave your current read a so-so!! His next few were all a little shaky (🙄) but his newest book was a SMASH!!! 👉🏽 5y
Cinfhen How‘s that liver??? 5y
DGRachel I still haven't caught up on this series. My next to read is #15 (The English Girl, I think). 😭 😭 Now @Cinfhen has me worried! 5y

Cinfhen English Girl was still good @DGRachel but there was ( for me ) a lull following (edited) 5y
TrishB @Cinfhen feeling much better today! Good sleep in my own bed. Took today off work too to recover! 5y
TrishB @DGRachel there‘s only really been this one that wasn‘t top notch for me. 5y
DGRachel @TrishB @Cinfhen Thanks for that! The Heist was my favorite to date and I think I've had a bit of a Silva hangover from that one and haven't picked up the The English Girl, yet. Of course, my TBR overfloweth and I keep getting distracted by other shiny new books. 😍 5y
Cinfhen I can‘t remember the order of books but I did like this one ( which I think might be coming up) @TrishB @DGRachel 👉🏽 5y
Cinfhen Glad you took today off!! Your body probably needed that 😂 5y
DGRachel @Cinfhen Yes! It's actually The English Spy that I have next, not The English Girl, and Black Widow is the one after The English Spy. I've already read The English Girl, because that was the one that came before The Heist. You would think I'd have the order memorized since his books are on top of the bookcases next to my TV. 😆 5y

#18 in the Gabriel Allon series, and I still love the characters and enjoy the edge of my seat drama. Looking forward to getting into this latest one

#HeatOfJuly Started this on the plane the other day..it was #weak 😣not one of my favorites....the thrill from this thriller was seriously lacking until the last 50 pages. That‘s the second Silva book in a row that really underwhelmed me☹️ I‘ll still buy & read any Gabriel Allon book but Silva needs to up his game.

Kalalalatja Too bad! You need a good book when on a plane ☹️ 6y
Cinfhen It was an easy read, but it was missing the thrill @Kalalalatja it was fine for the plane ( brainless ) 6y

The latest Gabriel Allon episode and Daniel Silva is going strong. I love this series and this most recent is fabulous. Tying together the tentative cooperation of aligned governments and historical figures, this one is great start to finish. I listened on audiobook and enjoyed it!!

When a Russian agent is killed right before he defects, Isrseli spymaster Gabriel Allon is blamed for the assassination. Daniel Silva has written another terrific thriller that finds Allon and his team trying to uncover the identity of a mole who presence threatens the fragile friendship between America, Israel and Britain. There‘s a great backstory and while you might quibble over a few minor points, this is Silva at the top of his game! Read it!
