The Rage of Dragons
The Rage of Dragons: Book One of the Burning | Evan Winter
One in twenty-five hundred Omehi women are Gifted, wielding fragments of their Goddess' power and capable of controlling the world's most destructive weapon --Dragons. One in a hundred of their men has blood strong enough for the Gifted to infuse with magic, turning these warriors into near unstoppable colossi. The rest are bred to fight, ferocious soldiers fated to die in the endless war. Tau Tafari, an Omehi commoner, wants more than this, but his life is destroyed when he's betrayed by those he was born to serve. Now, with too few Gifted left and the Omehi facing genocide, Tau cares only for revenge. Following an unthinkable path, he will become the greatest swordsman to ever live, dying a hundred thousand times for the chance to kill three of his own people.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫This was very good & very violent. Similar in some ways to Jemisin‘s Broken Earth series, but not quite up to her level of mastery.
It features all Black characters - something certainly missing in mainstream fantasy - and the audiobook narrator does a great job creating the characters to fit their setting.
If you can stomach the violence, I highly recommend it.

Buy a friend a book challenge! Today I had a blast with @Roary47 . We went to Barnes & Noble‘s and challenge ourselves to find a book for the other person only using the knowledge we know about that person. No cheating by using a Goodreads list. I‘m super excited to add this book to my TBR list and shelf. Thanks for hanging with me today Shelly, you gave me reason to smile.

Happy Easter!
I could not put this book down. I loved how Tau wants revenge and doesn‘t let anything get in his way. The magic system was great and I loved the small appearances of dragons. I want more and hope there is more political intrigue in the sequel. You all have to pick this book up!

When they first reopened, my library disallowed hold suspensions. I wasn‘t too bothered because I was way down the list on most things and the checkout period‘s now 60 days.

Then they decided, hey, might as well allow suspensions after all, and everybody got theirs in before I noticed, and now I‘ve got an enormous stack of library books on top of all the stuff I want to read from La TBR.

Oh well.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Oooo, looking forward to your thoughts on a bunch of these. 4y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Oh, also happy belated birthday! 4y
xicanti @TobeyTheScavengerMonk hopefully I‘ll get to all of them! I ended up with a bunch of novels on top of what I want to read from my TBR in the next month or so, and I‘ve got a couple more still in transit. 4y

I still need 4 of the books I picked for my #ReadYourSign challenge, (The Rage of Dragons, Fool Moon, Crown of Coral and Pearl and The Kinder Poison) which will be here soon but here's my TBR stack right now for June! I had to switch Empire of Gold for Heart of Flames cause it wasn't going to be released in time for me to read it this month unfortunately

The Rage of Dragons - Book review of a story that's more the rage of a warrior than the rage of dragons. What happens when a single man's plan for vengeance is caught up in a complicated web of political wars? Read my review of The Rage of Dragons, an adult fantasy novel by Evan Winter.

My new 'walk to work' book.

I've wanted to start this book forever now & I (for some reason) kept pushing it back to read other things.

Enough is enough. I used an audible credit so that way I can still keep reading whatever I want at home & now I can enjoy this one in daily half hour chunks at the same time.

Win/Win. 🤘

Also... having a good audio book while traveling to work distracts me from that fact that I'm...well...traveling to work. 😅

Lindy I know exactly how you feel. Before I retired, I preferred to walk to work (1.3 km) rather than ride my bike, because I couldn‘t (safely) listen to an audiobook while cycling. 5y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @Lindy Having my car die on me this past fall and deciding not to get a new one and do without for awhile is one of the best decisions I have made recently! 🤘 5y
Lindy @GrilledCheeseSamurai The transmission went on my vehicle in the year 2000 and I haven‘t owned one since. That has allowed me to spend on air travel to distant places instead. 😊 5y

I‘ve heard this described as Game of Thrones meets Gladiator. Not sure if that‘s accurate, but overall, this is an African inspired revenge fantasy. It features a diverse cast, female mages called the Chosen, dragons, and our hero Tau, set on revenge after a devastating loss. I didn‘t like Tau much, but his motives and actions led the story. I‘ll say this wasn‘t for me, but I did finish and I can see the appeal for others. Love the cover though 😊

Did I enjoy this book? Well, I deprived myself off an hour of sleep each night before work, and I was up until 3 AM determined to finish it last night.

At first I really couldn't empathize with Tau, the main character, but as the book went on, it became harder and harder to do anything but. His development is painful and thorough, and he drives the plot forward, barreling into any desire to put the book down and go to sleep. 5/5. Awesome book.
