The Heart of Betrayal
The Heart of Betrayal | Mary E. Pearson
Held captive in the barbarian kingdom of Venda, Lia and Rafe have little chance of escape . . . and even less of being together.Desperate to save her life, Lia's erstwhile assassin, Kaden, has told the Vendan Komisar that she has a magical gift, and the Komisar's interest in Lia is greater than either Kaden or Lia foresaw.Meanwhile, the foundations of Lia's deeply-held beliefs are crumbling beneath her. Nothing is straightforward: there's Rafe, who lied to her, but has sacrificed his freedom to protect her; Kaden, who meant to assassinate her but has now saved her life; and the Vendans, whom she always believed to be barbarians but whom she now realizes are people who have been terribly brutalized by the kingdoms of Dalbreck and Morrighan. Wrestling with her upbringing, her gift, and her very sense of self, Lia will have to make powerful choices that affect her country, her people . . . and her own destiny.

4.9/5⭐️
I am inhaling this series! It truly has me hooked! Everything is so intricately woven - with every detail having a purpose. It is masterfully told. This author is kicking butt 💯%

The romance is still toasty clean & well balanced as the princess navigates being both a prisoner & a prophecy in enemy lands, among a people with barbaric yet familiar ways. The plot just continues to thicken!

Reading book 3 immediately!

Second book of the Remnant Chronicles did not disappoint. Secrets, lies, betrayal after betrayal. Still enjoying the backstory of the Ancients (us) and what they are learning from our books and artifacts.

I liked this one much better than the first. The characters and relationships become much more complex, and Lia realizes her potential.

Book 2 in the trilogy. Another great story from this author. Solid addition to the story and I‘m finding I‘m anxious to see how with turns out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2.

RosePressedPages I loved this series!! Mary Pearson is a great author! She has a duology set in the same universe called Dance of Thieves and I adored it🥰 2y

The second in the trilogy— I bought more credits in Audible (even though I had credits coming in like 1.5 weeks) because I just couldn‘t wait! This was a little more “she‘s not like other girls,” but it was manageable because at lest it wasn‘t coming from Lia. Love the political back and forth, that the love triangle is all stuck together in a weird situation, how Lia is rising up to her destiny— it was all good! 8/10

Book 2 in a trilogy. I do enjoy these, but they are long. I tend to listen at increased speed to help. I also am not really a fan of love triangles, so this isn‘t working for me all the time. I‘m invested in where it‘s heading though and will read book 3. I think I might try that one in paper rather than audio however, and see if that gives me a different impression 🤷🏼‍♀️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

When I first saw the prompt I went blank. I read this a few years ago and forgot how much I enjoyed it. All the books in the series have the main characters trekking to a different place. When they get there it‘s nearing the end of that book. It‘s been a while, but I like to trek through the desert around us. Thank you for the hike @ImperfectCJ for out #LitsySummerCamp

I am glad that so far I've been spot on with plot predictions! I'm still enjoying this, although there are so many kisses in this book it's kind of weird. I'd like to see the protagonist come out of it with no love interest in the end, but I don't think that will happen. I'll read the final book next to see how it all concludes! It could have been a shorter book, there is a lot of filler, but it is easy to follow and read.

This is the second book in the Remnant Chronicles trilogy. It picked up pretty much right where the first book left us. Fast paced, full of intrigue and a completely new setting, the story moved along well. I can‘t say much more without giving away how the first book ends, and I don‘t want to spoil it for anyone. This one leaves us with another cliffhanger. Where are our characters headed from here? I‘ll read on to find out! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This series has become my all time favorite. Its just so good. I love the characters and the world and the storyline. I want my own Rafe ❤ Lia is such an inspiring, strong lead. I love her drive and her "never give up" attitude. I flew thru reading both of these, they were so hard to put down! Now I need to hurry and get the 3rd and finale book, The Beauty of Darkness, ordered! I don't want the series to end but I have to know what's gonna happen!

cbowlin1921 I loved this series when I read it a few years back! 5y
InBooksILive @cbowlin1921 I had never heard of Pearson until I got Dance of Thieves last year in a book box! I read it, was amazed and in love so I picked up The Kiss of Deception and fell in love with that story lol Pearson has become a quick favorite of mine now 5y

I spent most of my weekend listening to the audiobook The heart of betrayal. The second book in The Kiss of Deception series. It was really good. Now all I can think about is the last book. I definitely recommend this series if you haven't read it yet.

Lia's character grows up in this compelling story arc. She plays a dangerous figurative chess match the Komisar and becomes quite the khaleesi.

OH BOY. So glad I didn‘t haven‘t to wait long for this book - cause the first one definitely left me wanting more. I feel like when you map out what actually happens, this book is pretty slow. But it didn‘t feel slow when I listened to it, which I appreciated. And when stuff goes down - it goes DOWN. That ending also broke me. Picking up the next book ASAP! 🌟

A thrilling sequel. Without the mystery of the first half of the first book, it seemed a little less gripping. However, I needed to keep reading to figure out what kind of deceptions would work and what would cause pandemonium. The love triangle continues but also gets wrinkled further by unexpected developments. This series is a fun read that will let you travel away for a little!

This one started a little slow for me but about half way through I was completely absorbed. I love the tangle of lies and deceptions, that I still haven't figured out. I love Lia as an heroine. And because I am a sap, I love the romance. Ready for the next book.

This is the sequel to The Kiss of Deception and I loved it so much more. It is so rare for the sequel to be better but this book so so engaging from the start and it made up for a lot of the problems which I had with the first book. The characters got more depth, the story was less dependent on tropes and took many twists and turns. I'm very glad I continued with this series

I wish I could recommend this series. I loved Pearson's Jenna Fox books, but despite a promising first book, this second in the Remnant trilogy was ultimately tedious. All the good action was in the last 3 chapters. I won't be reading the 3rd book. I just don't care enough. At least I was able steal a few moments on the deck while Mr. BFR slept so I could finish the audio. An okay production but not impressive.

readinginthedark Beautiful picture anyway! 8y
