A Dangerous Inheritance
A Dangerous Inheritance: A Novel of Tudor Rivals and the Secret of the Tower | Alison Weir
14 posts | 12 read | 18 to read
In this engrossing novel of historical suspense, New York Times bestselling author Alison Weir tells the dramatic intertwined stories of two womenKatherine Grey and Kate Plantagenetseparated by time but linked by twin destinies . . . . involving the mysterious tragic fate of the young Princes in the Tower. When her older sister, Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Days Queen, is executed in 1554 for unlawfully accepting the English crown, Lady Katherine Greys world falls apart. Barely recovered from this tragic loss she risks all for love, only to incur the wrath of her formidable cousin Queen Elizabeth I, who sees Katherine as a rival for her insecure throne. Interlaced with Katherines story is that of her distant kinswoman Kate Plantagenet, the bastard daughter of Richard III, the last Plantagenet king. In 1483, Kate travels to London for Richards coronation, and her world changes forever. Kate loves her father, but before long she hears terrible rumors about him that threaten all she holds dear. Like Katherine Grey, she falls in love with a man who is forbidden to her. Then Kate embarks on what will become a perilous quest, covertly seeking the truth about what befell her cousins the Princes in the Tower, who may have been victims of Richard IIIs lust for power. But time is not on Kates side, or on Katherines. Katherine finds herself a prisoner in the Tower of London, the sinister fortress that overshadowed the lives of so many royal figures, including the boy princes. Will Elizabeth demand the full penalty for treason? And what secrets will Katherine find hidden within the Tower walls? Alison Weirs new novel is a page-turning story set within a framework of fascinating historical authenticity. In this rich and layered tapestry, Katherine and Kate discover that possessing royal blood can prove to be a dangerous inheritance. While Lady Jane Grey is one of my favorites, it never connected for me that her sister, Lady Katherine Grey, was next in line after Elizabeth 1. Richard 3 is another of my favorites, but I knew next to nothing about Katherine Plantagenet, his daughter. Plus, the Princes in the Tower story was weaved throughout the book. An enjoyable read for the History Geek that I am.

This book is about people who were put in #danger by having a claim to the throne. I‘ve read some of Weir‘s nonfiction but I still need to read this fiction work. #ReallyRandomFebruary

HELP! I'm looking for a book to give my mother-in-law for xmas. She's obsessed with all things Tudors, but mainly consumes film/tv about them since she isn't a big reader. I think she likes the idea of reading, but has trouble committing. Does anyone know of a fast-paced Tudor period historical fic that is on the shorter side? Thx! 🎄📚❤

marleed The Phillipa Gregory books are on the longer side but maybe she‘d have fun reading a book that had been adapted to film. She might decide the book is better :) 4y
Librarybelle I second the Phillipa Gregory. My favorite is The Last Tudors; since she focuses on each Grey sister, the novel is broken into 3 parts, so it‘s smallish consumption of sorts. 4y
ShyBookOwl @marleed good point. Thx! 4y
ShyBookOwl @Librarybelle oh that's good to know! She can approach it as 3 novels in one. Thx! 4y

We're on vacation, so sadly I won't be participating in #litsypartyofone 😕 but I have a question I've been meaning to ask you Littens: Who is an author(s) that you have read literally every single thing they've written?!? I have two and they're vastly different, Allen Ginsberg and Liane Moriarty. My two dark sides coming out 🙈

Bibliogeekery Jeanette Winterson, Sarah Waters, Emma Donoghue, Margaret Atwood 7y
HeatherBookNerd Kate Atkinson and Iain McEwan and Rainbow Rowell 7y
OrangeMooseReads I'm only missing 2 Anne Rice novels and I'm working on Kurt Vonnegut 7y

MicheleinPhilly @TrishB SAME! And then when I get the email saying, "Your order has shipped" and I'm like, "Order? What order?" ? 7y
monkeygirlsmama There is never a bad time to buy books! Unless you get home and find the next day that instead of buying every Weir book you actually bought every Kama Sutra book. That might be a bit redundant, even with all those positions. 🤣😇🤣😇🤣 7y
Yournewfriendsams @MicheleinPhilly @TrishB around Christmas I woke up with the lap top in bed hahaha I was like oh shit!! The night before, I had ordered a custom sweatshirt for my husband with his highschool track team logo on it 😫 haha at least he thought it was hilarious....I swear, I don't drink often, I'm just a shopper at heart!! 7y
Yournewfriendsams @monkeygirlsmama very good point!!! 7y
