Book 2 in the Joe Talbert series. Eskens has really become a solid pick for me. Bonus: my husband loves listening to these during our #RoadTripReads

I liked The Shadows We Hide every bit as much (or, maybe, a little bit more) than it's predecessor, The Life We Bury (which I read in April). This one takes place several years later. It's full of relationships and surprises (and, I like being surprised by a mystery—it doesn't happen as often as it should).

In 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝗪𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐞, the sequel to 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝗪𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐲, Joe Talbert investigates the murder of the father he never knew & reckons with his family‘s past. It's a touching exploration of the myriad ways in which family histories impact us in the present, redemption, & second chances. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The characters, the town of Buckley all felt very real. Buckley reminded me a lot of my own home.
4.⭐
Picture of my boy Haze, he was on my lap as I finished this book. #Hazedays
The Shadows We Hide is a gripping tale of self discovery with great characters, descriptive writing and a fast paced story. Joe Talbert,Jr. has never met his father. While working for the Associated Press in Minneapolis, Joe comes across the story describing the murder of a man named Joseph “Toke” Talbert. Could this man be the father that abandoned him? https://www.bluestockingreviews.com/post/the-shadows-we-hide
Got to listen to this for MAYBE the first 3rd of my #audiorun but then my running/biking buddy requested “Africa Weezer” and we only listened to more Weezer from then on. 😁
Got stuck in construction traffic later on a drive that allowed me to finish this. Eskens does a great job of building suspense. And I love my home state of MN as the backdrop for the Joe Talbert books.
Wonderful part 2 of The Life We Bury. The characters are believable and the story keeps your attention the whole way through. Definitely worth reading!
SO FLIPPING GOOD! Most of the twists caught me completely off guard and Eskens weaved this plot SO tightly. Really, really good 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I read all five of Eskens' books this month and am still shocked that I hadn't heard of him sooner. He's now on my auto-buy list for sure!
PS: this book should only be read *after* The Life We Bury.
Allen Eskens has a way of bringing you right into his stories. I didn‘t want this one to end.
Woah! The twists and turns came at me so fast in this one! Loved it - couldn‘t put it down. Read The Life We Bury first so you have the backstory about Joe and Lila and Jeremy. #mystery #Minnesota #thriller
I'm saving the date for this opportunity to meet a Michigan author and shouting out my thanks to the libraries in my county for coming together.
Solid crime novel with an exceptionally good first chapter. Eskens has become an auto-buy author for me
Gobbled this book right up. Joe Talbot's story continues in this novel by Allen Eskens. What a story it is too!! He's now a reporter for the Associate Press, we get to follow him on an investigation that may be the murder of his father. #couldntputitdown
I love my Mother-in -law. Every Christmas she asks what I want for Christmas, I give her a list of books, and she always gets books off the list. If she cannot find the books I request, she does a gift card to a book store. ❤📚❤ #MerryChristmas
When you‘re too tired to hold your book.
So I finish The Life We Bury and love it. Nobody informed me there was companion books. :( Now I am sad but it means I get to buy more books right.
