When in Doubt, Add Butter
When in Doubt, Add Butter | Beth Harbison
10 posts | 21 read | 20 to read
From the New York Times bestselling author of Shoe Addicts Anonymous and Always Something There to Remind Me comes a delicious new novel about the search for true love and all the ingredients that go into it. As far as Gemma is concerned, her days of dating are over. In fact, it's her job to cater other peoples' dates, and that's just fine by her. At thirty-seven, she has her own business, working as a private chef, and her life feels full and secure. She's got six steady clients that keep her hands full. There's Lex, the fussy but fabulous department store owner who loves Oysters Rockefeller and 1950s comfort food; Willa, who needs to lose weight under doctor's orders but still believes butter makes everything better; a colorful family who may or may not be part of the Russian mob; an berwealthy Georgetown family; the picture-perfect Van Houghtens, whose matriarch is "allergic to everything"; and finally, a man she calls "Mr. Tuesday," whom she has never met but who she is strangely drawn to. For Gemma, cooking is predictable. Recipes are certain. Use good ingredients, follow the directions, and you are assured success. Life, on the other hand, is full of variables. So when Gemma's takes an unexpected turn on a road she always thought was straight and narrow, she must face her past and move on in ways she never would have imagined. Because sometimes in life, all you need is a little hope, a lot of courage, and---oh yes---butter.

Mehso-so

The first page absolutely caught my attention but the plot is slow and way too draggging. But it still exciting to read.

Been doing terrible with audios this year so I hope this one sticks. I mean, when in doubt, just add butter, right? Lol

Read (or listen) if you:
1. Like breezy (but still good) chick lit
2. Dream about leaving the corporate life and being your own boss
3. Want to read about the realities of #2 such as having clients with a ton of different personalities that you have to please
4. Like reading about food
5. Like a relatable narrator who is in her late 30s, single and has a set plan for her life but of course it gets derailed
6. Like colorful secondary characters

#ReadingResolutions #yellow 🌼🌝🍋🧀🚕📒💛Some books with covers in various shades of yellow from my stacks. Since about half are from my e-books stack and I'm too lazy to dig out & photograph the rest, I took the easy way out with a collage.😆👍

mrozzz Well the collage is great 😊👌🏻 6y

This audiobook has actually made me laugh out loud while cleaning my kid‘s disgusting bathroom. The MC has the best “why I got fired” story. Let‘s just say it involves a peacock 😀

cobwebmoth I've had this book for a long time, but I haven't read it yet. I'll try to remember it when I need a laugh. 6y
saresmoore Oof, I hate cleaning the kids‘ bathroom. I made them clean it yesterday and then went in when they weren‘t looking and actually cleaned it. 6y
Tamra @saresmoore you do that to, complete the job? My daughter tried vacuuming and I felt bad but there was no way it was going to suffice. 😏 6y

LauraBeth @cobwebmoth it‘ll definitely make you laugh 6y
LauraBeth @saresmoore and @Tamra We took her phone away this weekend until she cleaned her room and her bathroom. She did just enough to pass inspection with the husband when he saw it. Now I‘m having to *actually* clean it. Her bathroom is due for a remodel but honestly, she‘s so dirty we‘re holding off until she leaves for college. 6y
Tamra @LauraBeth smart move! 😂 6y
saresmoore Haha! @LauraBeth I think that‘s a wise choice! @Tamra If it‘s bad enough not to pass a dad inspection, I usually reteach them the proven Sara cleaning technique, but I don‘t want to traumatize them with my perfectionism, so I usually just try to be sneaky about the re-cleaning. 6y
minkyb When my two adult daughters are home for a visit I refuse to go in the their bathroom when they leave. I make my husband do it. Daddy‘s girls! 😂 6y

Hi - my name is Laura Beth. 🙋‍♀️ I enjoy reading books with pastel cupcakes on pastel covers with poor font choices. And this is my book flaw.

Pamwurtzler Who doesn‘t like the pastel cupcake? I have the Magnolia Bakery in my instagram feed. (edited) 6y
