Embassy Row #3
Embassy Row #3: Take the Key and Lock Her Up | Ally Carter
37 posts | 41 read | 17 to read
Centuries ago, the royal family of Adria was killed... or so everyone thought. Now Grace Blakely knows the truth: there was one survivor, and that survivor's blood runs through her veins. This simple fact could cause a revolution-which is why some people will stop at nothing to keep it from coming to light. There is only one way for Grace to save herself, save her family, and save the boy she loves. She must outmanoeuvre her foes, cut through the web of lies that has surrounded her for years, and go back to the source of all her troubles, despite the risk. If she wins, she will inherit a throne. And if she loses, she will inherit the fate of all the dead princesses who came before her.

Has Ally Carter ever gotten darker in a book? So many double-crosses, so much adventure, but also an ending everyone deserves, for good or for bad. I wish Grace had had a little more formal mental health support, but damn, I'm ultimately not complaining. #reread #yalit #yathriller

I read all three books yesterday and as always, Ally Carter does a magnificent job. 10 out of 10 recommended.

Anyone want a baby? Mine is up for sale. I've had a migraine for most of the day, and she has been difficult for quite a few days. Including now. Especially now. She was sitting straight up when I got home for work and started screaming. If I do something she doesn't like, she screams again. I have to try to keep quiet and make her be quiet so my parents can sleep, and I'm about at my wits end. She won't go to sleep and it's not cute.

Vertabrain Ugh, I remember those days well. How old is your baby? 7y
vkois88 @vertabrain a little over 10 months 7y
CouronneDhiver Oh dear... wish I could help. I‘m a good *temporary* babysitter 😉 7y

Vertabrain Yep, I was going to guess about a year..This can be a tough age, because babies haven‘t quite learned to self-soothe yet, and they are starting to recognize their individuality. So they cling to Mama even more and they fuss. It makes you crazy, but it‘s exactly what she needs to grow. Just take space if you need it though. I used to hide out in the garage for 5-10 minutes when my twins were little and screaming, until we could all calm down, lol. 7y
Vertabrain It must be hard with other people around though. Hang in there...it does get easier, I promise!! 7y
JHSiess It's a stage . . . the old cliche is true: "This too shall pass." Hang in there! ?? 7y
CarolynM Oh you poor thing. I feel for you, I really do. My oldest child didn't sleep much and screamed a lot in the first year of his life. There's really nothing you can do except live through it. At 10 months your baby may be teething which might explain the extra tetchiness. My lovely baby health nurse used to say these sorts of changes in behaviour were a sign of going through a developmental stage. Sometimes a reason helps you cope💐❤️ 7y
Caroline2 Oh no, the first year is so tough isn‘t it! I feel your pain! Like the other ladies said, it‘s prob teething or a developmental stage thing or she‘s secretly a terrorist and sleep deprivation is her weapon of choice!!! 😆 kids eh!!! (I promise it does get easier tho!) 7y
Ddzmini I just finished the article rub the bottom of her feet particularly her heels it helps the baby relax for sleep tried it on my granddaughter and it works (edited) 7y
BookNerd9906 @vkois88 I‘m sorry sweetie. Hang in there, sending love, strength, and patience. @Caroline2 🤣🤣🤣🤣 @Vertabrain I used to lock myself in the bathroom with the water running when my twins were screaming. #momlife 7y
knittedgnome Hugs momma! My son was the most terrible, no sleeping, crying, had to always be held terror. And then he wasn't and has seriously been the best laid back kid/teen. He's still a bit of a momma's boy but I like that. It does get better and it is ok to leave the room and take a minute. 7y
Tamra You will both get through it! 🤗 7y
Tamra @CarolynM yes! I‘ve noticed that as my kids are transitioning to the next developmental phase, they are more difficult. Then they plateau until the next round. (edited) 7y
cobwebmoth Big hugs! 7y
ReadingRover Awww. I‘m sorry. Hugs 🤗 7y
vkois88 @CouronneDhiver @vertabrain @JHSiess @CarolynM @Caroline2 @Ddzmini @BookNerd9906 @knittedgnome @Tamra @cobwebmoth @ReadingRover thanks everyone... She IS teething but it's been more than that lately. She thinks bedtime is a game & won't settle down unless I hold her. She's perfected the art of pretending to be asleep until I go to put her in the crib, then it's wide awake & screaming until I pick her back up. Won't take bottle. She was up until 2 7y
vkois88 It's just super exhausting, especially when I don't feel well. I'm all there is. I spend all day taking care of her, and the time I have away from her is spent dealing with a stressful job where customers great really crappy for no reason. I can't even go to the bathroom without her screaming bc I left her. I love her dearly and I'm lucky to have her, but it's a lot sometimes 7y
Tamra Hang in there! Different strategies for different kids. My son as an infant had to be swaddled very tightly and if any part of his body came out he‘d wake up crying. I remember thinking it was NEVER going to end and he‘d be a teenager who had to be swaddled in order to sleep. He did grow out of it. 😉 Time. 7y
JHSiess You might have to let her cry it out. I'm not a believer in that, ordinarily, but it might be the only way to teach her that bedtime is real. You both need quality sleep. 7y
vkois88 @Tamra omg she HATED being swaddled! She had to have arms free. Even when she was in the NICU. She'd pull the blanket over her face, but leave her arms out. @JHSiess I try to let her cry it out when it's earlier in the evening... but she will literally scream the entire time. She's gone an hour and a half before I picked her up. When it gets late at night, I try to keep her quiet bc our room is next to my parents' and they have to get up early 7y
laundry_piles Hang in there momma! My first was a stage five clinger at bedtime too. If you need a shoulder, reach out, I can send you my email. ♥️ 7y
vkois88 @laundry_piles thank you ❤ 7y
readordierachel I feel you. My 16 month old has recently decided bed time is for screaming. I know it's hard, but hang in there. It'll pass. You got this 💪🏽 7y
vkois88 @ReadOrDieRachel it's pure insanity lol... she's tired now and doing weird yoga poses to keep herself awake 😂😂 I put her in her play pen with a toy, her lovey, and her bottle. There's calming music playing, so we will see what happens 7y

This has been waiting for me since Christmas, but I've been putting it off for a myriad of reasons: first, the Great Mono Debacle, and then, because I just don't want to end my journey with this series. I love Grace, and everyone else on Embassy Row. But I also NEED to know what happens, so here we go. 💖👑 #allycarter #embassyrow #takethekeyandlockherup

Liked this one a lot more than book 2! Grace is still a little annoyingly mentally unstable, but at least there's a plot! A satisfying end.

The heroine's psychological state is getting a bit old (she's suffering from a PTSD-like condition and then general teenage idiocy...) but on to book three! Can't leave a trilogy unfinished. 😜 And I love the Adrian setting.

This was a fast read. I'll admit that when I picked up the first in the trilogy I was expecting more of a YA political thriller and not the royal disparity that came later. This final book wrapped up all the story lines well and it was a solid read. My only complaint is that the trilogy wasn't anything new. It's another "girl is chosen one, peril ensues, mystery guy loves her, but it all works out in the end" story. So a good read, but typical.

This series started to be a little much. Too much in the main character's head, too much crazy, too many panic attacks and overall I just wanted it to be over. I hope they get a therapist for this girl cause this series is full of WTF moments that would send me off the deep end. I also liked every character more than our MC - I think there's something about being too much in one character's head.

My review uses a quote from the book itself- "I should find my room, my bed. I should do something to make this right, but I just look out the big windows, wishing I could go back in time." And never have read it. Sorry, Allie Carter, I still love your other series.

Finished the last 50 pages in print. I really like Carter, but I spent most of this book yelling "oh my god Grace shut up." I wouldn't mind a follow up series just following the gang in school and maybe handling international incidents though.

While I usually love and devour Carter's series, I didn't find this one (the book or series) as appealing as usual. Something about the writing and word choice made the main character seem predictable and juvenile which was frustrating. It also didn't give me the same emotional connection of "all the feels" that the others have given me. Maybe it is because there was such a gap in between books and that took away from my connection to it.

"I thought I'd get a happy ending.

Those are the only endings anyone ever takes about, after all. What the world doesn't tell you — what you don't see in the movies and in books and on TV — is that not everybody gets one. And no one ever thinks they're going to be the very unlucky exception to the rule."

Books I got for Christmas!

This is super late but I didn't open gifts from my parents until Sunday due to work schedules/being sick. My mom came through with the Ally Carter's pre-order and I can't wait to read the next installment. Eligible is a book she and I had been talking about a couple of months ago since we are both Jane Austen fans. Can't wait to read these!

Finally have my hands on the final book in the Embassy Row trilogy! What I love about Ally Carter is that her books are fun for all ages, but extra perfect for tweens who are itching to get into YA and older plot lines, but aren't ready for heavy romance and language. Carter focuses on mystery and action over romance and I'm a huge huge fan of that!
