"A relevant, compelling, and compassionate look at the torture of conflicted loyalties and the slipperiness of truth." --Jenna Blum, New York Times bestselling author of Those Who Save Us and The Lost Family In this evocative debut novel, Katrin Schumann weaves a riveting story of past and present--and how love can lead us astray. At twenty-four, Katie Gregory feels like life is looking up: she's snagged a great job in New York City and is falling for a captivating artist--and memories of her traumatic past are finally fading. Katie's life fell apart almost a decade earlier, during an idyllic summer at her family's cabin on Eagle Lake when her best friend accused her father of sexual assault. Throughout his trial and imprisonment, Katie insisted on his innocence, dodging reporters and clinging to memories of the man she adores. Now he's getting out. Yet when Katie returns to the shuttered lakeside cabin, details of that fateful night resurface: the chill of the lake, the heat of first love, the terrible sting of jealousy. And as old memories collide with new realities, they call into question everything she thinks she knows about family, friends, and, ultimately, herself. Now, Katie's choices will be put to the test with life-altering consequences.

Interesting read. Definitely a trigger for some. Hard topics, dealing with the complexities of being a teenager and growing up.

This book is set by a #lakeside - Eagle Lake where, 10 years earlier, one of Katie‘s best friends accused her father of sexual assault. Now that he is being released from prison, are Katie‘s memories real and can she understand her past?

I enjoyed this one.

I‘m only about 35 pages into this book but so far I‘ve noticed quite a bit of British slang that seems out of place. I get that the mom/wife was from England, but i find it hard to believe that the dad would be calling plexiglass “Perspex” after six years in prison in New York. The narrator is also using British slang just in her thoughts or whatever and it just throws me off. I hope this doesn‘t continue...

This book was good. Two girls sharing their summers together thinking they‘d be friends forever torn apart by a situation. The same situation brings different heart I aches to each girl and it takes a while for them to find each other again for healing.

Reading and snuggles! Just now realizing that this might not have been the best page to snap a pic on 😂 chapter 4 is apparently going to be more racy than the first 3. P.S. this is supposed to be a suspense/ thriller not a romance and up until now I would have agreed with that 😂

1. Not a pet of my own but my dad has a 15 year old bloodhound mix. Her name is Nala and she doesn't like me. She doesn't like anyone but my dad & boyfriend. She's just a crotchety old lady.
2. Finish the tagged ebook! It's been a month
3. Yoga and cake decorating
4. Illinois where my BF family is, New York to see my sick aunt and I'd love to get just out to Fort Myers Beach soon
5. What's everyone reading this weekend?

ItsAngel The only thing I‘ll be reading is all of my homework that I‘m behind on. 6y
stephothebesto I want to finish Becoming Belle, and might start The Bookshop on the Corner, for Read Harder Journal challenge A Book about Books. 6y
CouronneDhiver Fort Myers Beach is good fun. Last time I was there, we were drinking at an old hotel called the Lani Kai (with grandma). Lol (edited) 6y
kristincatastrophic @CouronneDhiver Drinking with Grandma is par for the course at Lani Kai lol. Everyone I know has a Lani Kai story and I know them all, my sister worked there for years. My boyfriend worked 1 spring break there, that's all he could handle. 6y
CouronneDhiver Ha! Spring Break must be mayhem. 🤪 I can only imagine 6y

It‘s definitely not a #sunnysunday in Kansas, but I started the tagged book while Owen made his representation of our snow family. From left: me, Anthony, and Owen ☃️.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. There were parts I really loved and parts I absolutely hated. The story had so much potential but it was full of triggering subjects with only a partial solution.
Book 4 or 2019
