I seem to be the only Litten to have read this one. Sonya Hartnett is a prolific Australian author of mainly children‘s & YA books. This one won the 2002 Guardian Children‘s fiction prize. I‘ve read many of her novels over the years. I love her work and I loved this, set in 1920‘s country Australia. Lots of poverty & hardship, with a sprinkling of magical realism 🤔. Reminiscent of Tim Winton‘s Cloudstreet, although not as epic. Quality #ozfiction

Any Sonya Hartnett fans out there? My mum was a fan of this prolific Australian writer and I have consequently read many of her books over the years, some YA and some adult fiction. I came across this one in a secondhand bookshop & it called to me.

📖 - Yes, I usually get them when I read books quickly one after another and it usually lasts a few days because I continue to read books during that time.
