Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac
Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac: A Novel | Gabrielle Zevin
11 posts | 41 read | 17 to read
If Naomi had picked tails, she would have won the coin toss. She wouldn't have had to go back for the yearbook camera, and she wouldn't have hit her head on the steps. She wouldn't have woken up in an ambulance with amnesia. She certainly would have remembered her boyfriend, Ace. She might even have remembered why she fell in love with him in the first place. She would understand why her best friend, Will, keeps calling her "Chief." She'd know about her mom's new family. She'd know about her dad's fiance. She never would have met James, the boy with the questionable past and the even fuzzier future, who tells her he once wanted to kiss her. She wouldn't have wanted to kiss him back. But Naomi picked heads. After her remarkable debut, Gabrielle Zevin has crafted an imaginative second novel all about love and second chances.Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac is a 2008 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

This book was different than I thought it would be but that‘s not a bad thing. It was still a good read.

I've had this book on my shelf since highschool and finally decided to read it after about 6years. I really enjoyed watching the main character grow so much within the book. It reminded me of myself at her age, trying to rediscover who I was but also fitting into societal norms. Great book, wish I would have picked it up off my shelf when I had first gotten it. ❤📚

mreads ❤🐕 looks like the puppy likes it too 😀 5y
michellelav @mreads She enjoys when I read because it means I'm not running around the house. 😅❤ 5y

1) the tagged book and Eleanor & Park are my favorite music books. I know there are some more but these always stand out for me.
2) The Beatles, Deftones, Alexisonfire, Oasis, Glassjaw, Early November, City and Colour, Smashing Pumpkins And I‘m a Taylor Swift fan.
3) Deftones, Alexisonfire, Glassjaw, and Depeche Mode.
4) right now it‘s “Don‘t Blame Me” by TSwift and “Happiness by the Kilowatt” by Alexisonfire.

JoScho Oasis and the Pumpkins. I almost got suspended in high school for skipping to go buy the Adore Album on release day 🖤 (edited) 6y
TheKidUpstairs Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie? 6y

That-Bookish-Hiker @JoScho that‘s a good reason to skip school! Smashing Pumpkins are coming in August and I‘m crossing my fingers my husband can eat the tickets from work. 6y
JoScho That would be awesome!! 6y
TheKidUpstairs @That-Bookish-Hiker me too ❤ I feel like there are two main camps among Pumpkins fans, divided by which of those albums they prefer. Most people I know are Mellon Collie people. But for me, you can't beat Today and Siamese Dream. 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker @TheKidUpstairs yaaas! I feel the same way. 6y

Loved this as my first book of 2018. Couldn't have chosen a better book to start off the 2018 reading year.

This is between a pick an a so-so. The narration is excellent, but the story is just ok. A teenage girl loses her memories after a fall at school. The book follows her as she tries to regain what she lost and figure out her relationships with family, friends and boyfriends. Overall, What Alice Forgot is a much better amnesia book unless you're buying for a teen.

#LitsyAtoZ Letter Z

Alfoster Loved What Alice Forgot too! Still Alice is a good but heartbreaker of a novel narrated by a woman who slowly slides into dementia. Know it's not the same but so good!😀 7y
Megabooks @Alfoster I enjoyed Still Alice, too. I've liked all of Lisa Genova's books! 7y

I'm switching my Z choice for #LitsyAtoZ. I hope that's okay. I don't know why I thought I'd like Nicotine more the second time ☹️. Gabrielle Zevin is the way to go, I hope!

And yes, I realize I'm starting a book at 10:30 on a work night. 😉

Notafraidofwords I do that all the time. Or I'll start a book before work. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute That's fine. I'm sure I'll be switching some titles. 7y
Ammie Tell me more about Nicotine. I don't know anything about it but love the cover. 7y

Ammie And by more, I just mean why you didn't enjoy it. 💘 7y
KilgoreTrout I'm not even setting my list ahead of time! I read the rules through quickly, but I didn't see that as a requirement so I'm sticking with impromptu reads., 7y
Megabooks @Ammie Here's what I said after listening for 2.5 hours last time: "Well, I really enjoyed Mislaid, but between the absence of a coherent storyline and the flat characters, this one sucked! Also, the narration is subpar. If you must, definitely don't listen." I stand by these views. 7y
Megabooks @KilgoreTrout That's probably a good idea. Over half mine are audible books I already own, so I at least wanted to get to those! 7y
Ammie Ah thank you! 7y

Okay, so it's not a ~real~ memoir. Bear with me. I don't own any others. This is my #booktober Day Eleven photo: #memorablememoirs !! I highly recommend this book for fans of realistic fiction dealing with the brain.
