The Moment of Everything
The Moment of Everything | Shelly King
In the tradition of The Cookbook Collector comes a funny, romantic novel about a young woman finding her calling while saving a used bookstore. Maggie Duprs, recently "involuntarily separated from payroll" at a Silicon Valley startup, is whiling away her days in The Dragonfly's Used Books, a Mountain View institution, waiting for the Next Big Thing to come along. When the opportunity arises for her to network at a Bay Area book club, she jumps at the chance-even if it means having to read Lady Chatterley's Lover, a book she hasn't encountered since college, in an evening. But the edition she finds at the bookstore is no Penguin Classics Chatterley-it's an ancient hardcover with notes in the margins between two besotted lovers of long ago. What Maggie finds in her search for the lovers and their fate, and what she learns about herself in the process, will surprise and move readers. Witty and sharp-eyed in its treatment of tech world excesses, but with real warmth at its core, The Moment of Everything is a wonderful read.

Thank you SO MUCH @CoffeeAndABook for the wonderful surprise #BookMail 🥳🥳🥳YOU totally made my day 💜I‘m excited to try all the goodies and I‘m happy to discover a new book that‘s a “real book lovers book”❣️❣️❣️❣️So grateful for another Litsy friendship 🙏🏻😘😘

Crazeedi You will like this book! I really enjoyed it! 6y
Heideschrampf My great-grandma used this perfume all the time. Can't help but think of her whenever i see/smell it 6y
Cinfhen Hahaha @Heideschrampf I swear, I thought that was vodka!!!! I was going to add it to my fruit smoothie 🤣😂😂🤣😂😂you saved my life!!!!!! 6y

TrishB Lovely Litsy bookmail ❤️ 6y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen you just made me giggle!! Vodka! 😂 6y
Heideschrampf @Cinfhen haha definately NOT safe for drink! It's the reason why perfume is also called (EAU DE) COLOGNE, because this company has been around forever. it's name was given because 4711 is the house number napoleon gave them when he invaded. And now it's a touristy souvenir/granny perfume 😜 6y
Cinfhen That‘s brilliant @Heideschrampf I never thought about the word “Cologne” #LiveAndLearn I think it smells good, not granny-ish at all 😉😂🤣 6y
Cinfhen It‘s almost 2pm here @Crazeedi reasonable hour to add a splash of alcohol to a smoothie 😉 6y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen go for it! ❤ sending my best wishes to you ! We are getting reading to go out on the lake before the rain comes!! Its 7 am here!! 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @Crazeedi Enjoy your time by the lake 💋 6y
CoffeeAndABook 😂😂😂 I‘m LOLlling all over the place!!! Now I wish I‘d sent you vodka 😜 but alas, it‘s only granny perfume from Cologne 😇 I‘m SO GLAD @Heideschrampf cleared that up though! And I did NOT know that bit about Napoleon - how embarrassing 🥴 #liveandlearn indeed! I‘m also pleased it made your day, hope you enjoy the book and definitely hope you‘ll find the ingredients for a “fun” smoothie elsewhere 🙌🏻 What a great idea 🥂😘 6y
Cinfhen Thanks so much Chrissy! I loved all my goodies xx such a wonderful treat @CoffeeAndABook Hope you‘ve recovered from your houseguests 😘 6y
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen You‘re very welcome 😘 Promise, next time there will be Vodka 😉 Yes, I feel much better, I‘ve truly been relishing the peace of our house, especially mornings 💓☀️☕️😌 Have a lovely weekend 😎🎋🍹 6y

Light and enjoyable, though honestly, it felt longer than it was. On the plus side: it‘s set in a used bookstore! That was lovely!

Adelle1 I read this on a whim and surprisingly enjoyed it, too! 6y

Mehso-so

The best part about this book, is that it‘s set in a used bookstore and everyone in this book loves reading and has a passion for books.

I didn‘t really agree with Maggie‘s life choices, so that kind of put me off toward the book. In my mind she was like 30 years old, though I don‘t know how old she is supposed to be and she was just floating. She couldn‘t make up her mind on anything. It was annoying.

Another ✅ for #mountTBR

Laughterhp Decided to use this for #Booked2018 - Underdog Hero. Maggie is unemployed, has no money, has worked in Silicon Valley And is looking for her next break. She spends all her time at a failing used bookstore that doesn‘t have an inventory list or website. She gives it a website, eBay site and starts advertising building up the community. And is successful even tho her exec friends expect it to fail. If I explain anymore, I‘m going into spoilers. 6y

I was in a reading slump and this book got me out of it in a hurry. I love character driven stories and this book is full of fantastic characters. The bookstore itself, the Dragonfly, included. Full of warm heart and emotion, Maggie's story is one of love and loss and finding out in life what truly holds your heart. I loved this book. I can't wait to read more by @Shelbelle94 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm really enjoying this book! It's funny how you can pick up a book because it's not too big for reading in bed at night or pick it up because of the great cover and it can turn out to be great! Take a chance on a cover!!

The BF and I went for pedicures yesterday so I brought my kobo and finished up with this one. I was very glad it ended the way it did and would have been very upset had the author gone a bit further. It was a very comfy read!

As the need for high quality comfy literature might be especially high these days I want to put this out there - one of my all-time faves ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's got an #indiebookstore & lots of book love & book nerdery. It's got friendship, love letters hidden in a book, a cute guy with dark curls, a mystery, decisions, heartbreak ... And - listen up Littens - a very opinionated cat!

Super late - but nevertheless #reccomendsday.

rubyslippersreads Aren't all cats opinionated? 😸😸😸 8y
Zelma That sound great! I may or may not have been swayed by the opinionated cat. 😆 8y

Shelbelle94 So glad you enjoyed it! Hmmm, @rubyslippersreads I think your right about cats and opinions, but there is variance in the level of violence. 😼 8y

Very sweet and touching book about love, finding yourself, loss and of course a used bookstore- such a great combination! Narrator, Kristen Sieh did a wonderful job with the voices.

Shelbelle94 So glad you enjoyed it. Yes, Kristen is amazing. Actually, I requested her. I was listening to Emma Straus's THE VACATIONERS and loved the way Kristen did the snarky voice of the teenage character. I knew she'd be perfect for Maggie. So I asked my editor if Hachette could hire her for the TMOE audiobook and they did! 8y
