Where the Light Enters
Where the Light Enters | Sara Donati
From the international bestselling author of The Gilded Hour comes Sara Donati's enthralling epic about two trailblazing female doctors in nineteenth-century New York Obstetrician Dr. Sophie Savard returns home to the achingly familiar rhythms of Manhattan in the early spring of 1884 to rebuild her life after the death of her husband. With the help of Dr. Anna Savard, her dearest friend, cousin, and fellow physician she plans to continue her work aiding the disadvantaged women society would rather forget. As Sophie sets out to construct a new life for herself, Anna's husband, Detective-Sergeant Jack Mezzanotte calls on them both to consult on two new cases: the wife of a prominent banker has disappeared into thin air, and the corpse of a young woman is found with baffling wounds that suggest a killer is on the loose. In New York it seems that the advancement of women has brought out the worst in some men. Unable to ignore the plight of New York's less fortunate, these intrepid cousins draw on all resources to protect their patients.

In this second book, Sophie loses her husband to consumption, and returns to Waverley Place after his death.
Once more both cousins, become embroiled in the affairs of one or more of their patient's lives.
Sara Donati has the ability to create such wonderful characters in her books, and I really enjoy immersing myself, in their respective worlds.

I was finally able to finish this one, a book I was putting down every time a library book came in.

It's sooooo long, it's tooooo long but I still enjoyed my time back with the Savard women. It was beautifully detailed with letters, transcripts, telegrams, newspaper articles. Good stuff!

#Ispy a book with a bridge on the cover. @TheAromaofBooks that was a fun challenge! @Gissy @Avanders @hermyknee can you find a book with space on the cover?

TheAromaofBooks Nice work!! 5y
Gissy I'm not participating. What is it? A Readathon? 5y

Chrissyreadit @Gissy just an I Spy game- find a book cover with a picture or image of space. Post it then tag with a color of a cover or picture - search #ispy for a better idea of how it works. 5y
Chrissyreadit @Gissy I just saw the OWLS read a thon info- how long does it last? It looks like fun- although I have already too many book challenges.🤣 (edited) 5y
Gissy @Chrissyreadit The O.W.L.s Readathon is during the month of April. Maybe you can use some of the books you are currently reading for other Readathon for this one. The YouTuber who host this activity is Book Roast. Everything is explained there. Some careers has only 4 books. If you. Red more information, let me know. My reading this month is slow. The lines to go to the supermarket or pharmacy or any other transaction are huge. 5y
Chrissyreadit @Gissy I watched her video- it‘s beautiful work and an immense undertaking! If I get some down time I will look more into it. I could love it! 5y
Avanders Oh! Man.... I‘m sure I can, even with most of my books packed away! 5y

It is better late than never☺️1.There are a couple, like Dostoyevsky, Poe, A. Christie & others, 2.I just want to know about their passion to write, how their ideas came. I think that artists in general are so intense in their emotions in their feelings and so unique in how they express that in their work. 3. 🤔Like 500? Near to 800? Maybe😲 thank you @Chrissyreadit & @JenlovesJT47 for tagging me & because now I don't feel alone in question 3😘❤️

First, there will definitely be another book after this one!
Second, I enjoyed this book, but since it's been quite some time since her previous, it took me a while to remember things.
The plot continues to revolve around the search for someone who has killed women by deliberately botching abortion.
I recommend you read her books in order to get a better understanding of these beautiful families

Enjoyed this sequel to The Gilded Hour which picks up about 4 months later. There‘s tragedy, grief, new beginnings and some convoluted and disturbing murders to be solved. Even though it‘s a bit too long (IMO), like its predecessor, it‘s the love, acceptance and openness of this family and their friends that really shine here (and great researching too). And I‘m happy to hear there‘s more to come. 4.5/5⭐️ Out 9/10

robinb @Chrissyreadit I have not. This was my first exposure to this author. I discovered though in looking at her previous work that this series goes way back historically. Very interesting! 5y
Chrissyreadit @robinb they are favorites of mine I hope you try them out! 5y
robinb @Chrissyreadit Is that one the very beginning of the series? 5y
Chrissyreadit @robinb yes- the first one. It remains a favorite of mine. 5y

Up next is an ARC (which I won! 🎉) of the sequel to The Gilded Hour (which I just finished). Even at 650+ pages 😳 I‘m looking forward to the continuing adventures of Anna and Sophie, two NY doctors in the 1880s.

Coming 9/10
