Throughout her studies, Ceony Twill has harbored a secret, one she's kept from even her mentor, Emery Thane. She's discovered how to practice forms of magic other than her own--an ability long thought impossible. While all seems set for Ceony to complete her apprenticeship and pass her upcoming final magician's exam, life quickly becomes complicated. To avoid favoritism, Emery sends her to another paper magician for testing, a Folder who despises Emery and cares even less for his apprentice. To make matters worse, a murderous criminal from Ceony's past escapes imprisonment. Now she must track the power-hungry convict across England before he can take his revenge. With her life and loved ones hanging in the balance, Ceony must face a criminal who wields the one magic that she does not, and it may prove more powerful than all her skills combined. The whimsical and captivating follow-up to The Paper Magician and The Glass Magician, The Master Magician will enchant readers of all ages.

Ceony had a secret, well many secrets, least among them her I‘ll advised relationship with her mentor, Emery Thane. No, Ceony has at her disposal every material under the sun, save for man himself. Her Magicianship exam approaching, on the cusp of a romance with ‘Magician Thane‘, what happens to her perfect world when a mad dog is on the loose?

This was very boring until it got to the end. The first book is by far the best book in the series.

I enjoyed this but not as much as the previous books in the series.

Through the series, I have grown to enjoy the characters of Ceony and Emery. My favorite parts of this particular book were when they were together. I felt the story around them was a bit dull and predictable, however. I wanted more.

Pretty solid. I felt like she led up to a relationship and it was just handwaved, but most things were tied up well

Shvonne I thought the ending was too... convenient but it‘s a cute series 5y
Mandigolightly @Shvonne yeah, definitely. It reminded me of a cozy mystery, but with magic. I read the spin off, the plastic magician, and it was even more so. 5y

Finally finished the final book of this underwhelming trilogy. Wonderful concept but unfortunately it never really worked for me. To be quite honest, I only completed the trilogy because I had already purchased the whole thing through a #Kindledeal and it was a relatively effortless read.

⭐️⭐️.5 • #YA #fantasy

JazzFeathers I've heard many lukewarm opinions about this. Such a shame, because the concept does sounds good and different. 6y
lauren.lerner I know there are folks who love this series, @JazzFeathers, I‘m just not one of them. Flimsy character development and jarring language (ex: I wrote a post about it a year ago for the first or second book in the series, the use of f*g to mean cigarette, which while historically correct, seemed so out of place in a book written by an American for an American audience, with all the linguistic baggage that entails) really ruined it for me. I thought this was a sweet, fitting end to the story of Ceony and Emory, though I understand why some people were so annoyed with Ceony‘s continued determination to put herself in danger for the flimsiest of reasons! I‘ll definitely be reading the next book in his universe. This is my #onesittingbook for the #ReadHarderChallenge @bookriot and a picture of my in-laws‘ dog for national puppy day

Book 4 in this series preorder announced!!!! I‘m so excited to get back into this world of magic! If you haven‘t read this series yet, it‘s super quick and easy. I‘m not sure if it‘s considered YA, but it‘s fantastic!

Quick background: Ceony is a young magician off to study under the master magician of paper and isn‘t happy about it. Through the series she learns to accept her gifts and reveals there‘s more to paper than folding.

So good!

TNbookworm I agree! Great series! 6y

This was probably one of my favorites of the series. I enjoyed spending more time with the characters regardless of how frustrating their communication and self-righteousness got. Overall entertaining and the story line had just enough new and yet enough of the same to be realistic in the world setting.

I can't seem to stop reading these books. Even though I can't say I love them. I was home sick today, so I read 3/4 of the first one and all of the second one. I'm about to start the third! #papermagician #reading #rachelreads52

This book was way better than the second. As a whole, I enjoyed the series. The plots were anticlimactic and a bit boring, but the Magic system and world was super interesting and I would like to read more about it. I also loved the characters (the MC got on my nerves a bit, but that is typical in YA books. I hate the 'special' one trope) but Emery and the others were delightful all the time. Overall, I flew through them and enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy but this one felt a little rushed and too full. I definitely recommend reading it especially if you enjoyed the first two, it does give a satisfying ending to the trilogy.

Meh. A disappointing end to a trilogy that had started so strong. I found Ceony to be somewhat unlikable for most of the book. Instead of being a tale about inner strength and defining the odds, it turned into "the tale of Ceony, who is obsessed with being the heroine at all costs — and behold, she cooks, too!" ? (seriously, got it. Enough ?)
The writing lost much of its grace, as did the protagonist. And the title is a bit misleading. ⭐️⭐️?

Not loving this third installment. Too much focus on the relationship between Ceony and Emery, and too much talk of her cooking skills. This isn't a 50s soap opera, people.

Also, Ceony? Take a beat and reassess your attitude because you are coming across kind of bratty and arrogant, girl. And a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Just chill for a sec.

Seriously, I am *this* close to dropping this book like a hot potato.

TheLondonBookworm Ah damn and it started off so well! 8y
Elisa @TheLondonBookworm I know!! 😞 I am not giving up on it yet, but I do think I need a break from it so I'll read another book from my Kindle Unlimited borrowed titles and them come back to this with my fingers crossed 😐 8y

A nice way to wrap up the series. While it was not as action packed as the first two books in the trilogy and I was dying for an epilogue to know how some of the storylines fared long term, it definitely resolved the big issues of the series in a fun way!

Merethebookgal Good to know! I've only read the first one but have the other two on my kindle :) 8y
KilgoreTrout I really like the world, early 20th century sensibilities but women seem to have some rights and there is magic. It's my cup of tea! 8y

The third book in the series (I didn't read the second book). Thought it had good resolution, but I wasn't as invested in the story as I was in book one.
