The Beauty of Love
The Beauty of Love: A Memoir of Miracles, Hope, and Healing | Jorge Posada, Laura Posada
2 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
JORGE and LAURA POSADA were accustomed to being on top of the world. After a romantic courtship, the lives of these newlyweds were filled with unimaginable success and joy. But all of that changed when their first-born son was diagnosed with craniosynostosis, a birth defect that causes an abnormally shaped skull. Their priorities swiftly changed, as Jorge and Laura navigated their way through the challenges of their sons diagnosis and eventual treatment, which has included eight major surgeries. Laura stayed home with her son, while Jorge suffered in silence as he tried to stay strong under the pressure to perform as a Yankees baseball player. Amid their fear, confusion, and anxiety as young parents, they decided to keep their sons sickness a secret to protect him from a media frenzy, but in time they realized it was this very celebrity status that would allow them to make a differencenot only for patients with craniosynostosis but for people suffering from any type of illness. They decided to open the Jorge Posada Foundation to help kids with the same condition, a decision that gave new meaning to their lives. Before being a celebrity athlete or a lawyer, Jorge and Laura are a father and a mother, a husband and a wifeand the fortitude and foundations of their family values have helped them face even the worst of days. The Beauty of Love is more than a memoir about dealing with childhood illnessit is a heartfelt and uplifting illustration of how a couple can endure stress and strife and come out stronger on the other side.

This is an inspiring memoir about Jorge Posada's son and his many surgeries to correct craniosynostosis. That sweet baby pictured is my oldest son at just 8 months old after his cranial vault reconstruction for sagittal craniosynostosis (the most common form). He has a zigzag scar that runs from ear to ear. Because of this condition, I had to have an emergency c-section. So, in the end, scars all around. 😬💚#ScarTissue #90sInJuly 👇🏻

He bounced back and recovered so quickly, it was nuts! Being in children's hospitals is so difficult. I was quickly put in my place when I saw children with worse problems when my son's condition was curable. He's a healthy, incredibly smart 5yr old! (edited) 7y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen ☺️😘 You are so very sweet - thank you! Luckily, that one surgery, though major, fixed his problem and he's now an incredibly healthy and insanely smart 5 year old! 💚 7y

britt_brooke @Currey They always provide interesting stories! After his surgery, he had a onesie that read "chicks dig scars." ? 7y
britt_brooke @Johanna414 Wow, I can't imagine both having it. 😔 Supposedly there's nothing to prove it's hereditary, but that proves it to me. Are they both doing well? 7y

ScientistSam So glad your little one is now healthy and happy! 7y
britt_brooke @Johanna414 Oh good! 💚💚 We were very fortunate that our son was diagnosed at 4 months (we realized in retrospect this is why he couldn't go through the birth canal, tmi!). He never suffered from any delays or any discomfort according to his doctors. So thankful for his pediatrician for noticing, as it often goes undiagnosed. 7y
britt_brooke @MaureenMc @ScientistSam Thank you so much! ☺️💚 7y
Caroline2 That must have been so scary for you all! So glad to hear he recovered! ❤️ 7y

Posada family, thank you for sharing your story! It is so important for people to know they are not alone. My son was born with sagittal craniosynostosis and underwent CVR at 8 months old. He is now an extremely intelligent, thriving 4 year old!
