Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends
Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends | Shannon Hale
9 posts | 19 read | 6 to read
At Ever After High, an enchanting boarding school, the children of fairytale legends prepare themselves to fulfill their destinies as the next generation of Snow Whites, Prince Charmings and Evil Queens...whether they want to or not. Each year on Legacy Day, students sign the Storybook of Legends to seal their scripted fates. For generations, the Village of Book End has whispered that refusing to sign means The End-both for a story and for a life. As the daughter of the Evil Queen, Raven Queen's destiny is to follow in her mother's wicked footsteps, but evil is so not Raven's style. She's starting to wonder, what if she rewrote her own story? The royal Apple White, daughter of the Fairest of Them All, has a happy ever after planned for herself, but it depends upon Raven feeding her a poison apple in their future. What if Raven doesn't sign the Storybook of Legends? It could mean a happily never after for them both.

It's #UnderHauntedSkies that the whole school of Ever After watches Raven Queen choose her destiny on Legacy Day... will she follow her path of villiany, or choose a different fate for herself and ALL the storybook characters? Royal or Rebel? #AdelesMayMashUp @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Those #raisingreaders and teachers of Litsy - has anyone got opinions on the Ever After High books? I'm looking at them for my nearly 7 year old but have seen mixed reviews on Amazon - would much prefer your opinions! Thank you :)

Bookzombie @LibrarianRyan I think I have seen you post about these books. 7y
LibrarianRyan I have the set but haven't read them. There is the original set written by Shannon Hale and then the ones written to go with the TV show. They are on my TBR but I recommend them all the time as a nice version of Monster high. I have read all the short stories and loved them, just not the main books yet. I see nothing in them to be worried about for a 7 yo as long as it's her level. BTW I am loose on what I think is okay, but if there was anything 7y
LibrarianRyan If i think even my most conservative parents wouldn't like, i would tell you. Noting has come back to me. @Bookzombie (edited) 7y
JillR Thank you :) I hadn't realised there was an original set then a written-for-tv set - I'll check out the former and avoid the latter I think. Thanks again @Bookzombie and @LibrarianRyan 7y
LibrarianRyan @JillR your welcome. Anything written by Shannon Hale is going to have strong empowered girls and a great message. She got her big break writing modern fairy tales. She also does graphic novels, and. Marvel. I love her version of squirrel girl. The cartoon books are not bad, there just not great. If your daughter is interested in the monster high books, (there is a cross over coming next month) keep to the cartoon books. The originals are 4 teens (edited) 7y

Pickpick

Started it on my commute yesterday but today I had to keep listening once I got home. A cute story about the children of fairytale legends. I'm a fan of Shannon Hale's writing and I will definitely recommend this to younger readers. (And their parents since I found it to be a quick, fun read.)

LibrarianRyan I've read the short stories about each of the characters before they get to storybook high. They were free ebooks but have since been printed. I agree they are cute. 7y
Read4life @LibrarianRyan I got them as free ebooks too and read them right before starting book 1. 7y
minkyb I like her writing so am glad to hear this is something you would recommend! 👍🏻👍🏻 7y
LibrarianRyan @minkyb there is going to be a new crossover book with Monster high. But I wonder if it's the monster high from the original books or from the tv show. Out in Oct. I believe. 7y

#bookmail This is the last of my Prime Day order. Yes it took this long. Ugh. I have wanted these for a while. I read all the short stories as free ebooks. This is the "base" or original set written my wonder lady Shannon Hale. Yes there is more books, but those are based on the cartoon. It's like the difference between Minster Hi by Lisi Harrison and Minster High the cartoon. Plus this October Hale has a cross over novel coming out.
