This was one of my first Dean Koontz books and the one that made me a lifelong fan! I remember reading it in middle school and it scared the bejeezus out of me! 😱

Slim MacKenzie is no ordinary man. With eyes the color of twilight, he's been blessed with a psychic gift: premonitions. He's also been cursed, for Slim can see the monsters hiding among us, feeding on our suffering.
And when Slim joins a traveling carnival seeking sanctuary, what he'll find is a hunting ground -- with humanity as the prey.
Haven‘t read it but sounds good! I am sucker for a carnival setting.

RadicalReader Immediately added this to my to be read pile sounds incredible love a good book that you can‘t put down and have wondered where the heck its been your entire life 5y
JoScho @RadicalReader yes! It sounds great. I added it to my list as well. 5y

#getmovin #funhouse OMG (I read this in the summer of 96 at Texas Tech Band camp!!!)=(nerd^2) Lol So the MC, who is on the run, Slim, joins this traveling carnival. He has the ability to see these goblins who have taken the shapes of regular humans. They feed off of human misery. The carnival soon stops in a small town that is a haven for these goblins. And there are some scenes in the funhouse. This was pretty great back then. Need a reread. 👇🏼

Reggie P.S. for other stories that riff on this idea see the short story The 10 o‘clock People by Stephen King where a man who has just quit smoking has a certain nicotine withdrawal imbalance that allows him to see the monsters disguised as humans who walk amongst us. And then there is the great movie They Live where Roddy Piper picks up sunglasses that, you guessed it, allow him to see the monsters disguised as humans who walk amongst us. All are great 6y
Cinfhen I LOVE EVERY post of yours!!!! ALWAYS!!!! You need to write book summaries for a living 🙌🏻💕This book sounds wack and I mean that as a compliment 😃 6y
Reggie @Cinfhen, thanks so much for the very kind words!!! 6y

TrishB I loved this at the time- though have stopped reading the author now after a couple of dud ones. Are you still reading him? 6y
Reggie No, for the same reason you stopped. Some were really just not that good. @TrishB 6y
DivineDiana @Reggie @Trisha I‘ve only read one Dean Koontz and I loved it! The memory haunts me to this day! Stacking this one. Sorry to hear that the spark is gone. 🙁 6y
RohitSawant Love everything about this post! 6y
Reggie @DivineDiana which one was it? @rohit-sawant Thanks so much, man. 6y
Reviewsbylola This sounds creepy af! 6y
Reggie @Reviewsbylola it is creepy af but also there‘s this mini trope that I love and it sounds corny but it happens near the end in here, where a couple‘s love intensifies as they do work for the better of the world whether it be killing off goblins or getting political or whatever. But it happens in here and 22 years later I still remember that part of the book. Weird right? 6y
Reviewsbylola It‘s always funny what parts of a book stick with you! 6y

#AllHallowsRead #PhotoADayChallenge #ScaryReads #FirstHorrorBook The first horror book that I remember making an impression on me is Twilight Eyes by Dean Koontz. Full of creepy people, weird clowns & killer circus folk it gave me both nightmares & a lifelong love of all things scary. The next book with that creep factor was Christine by Stephen King and I was hooked for life.👻💀😈🕷🎃

Bookgirl I've read Twilight Eyes many times! I don't remember the clowns though. 7y
Gayan This is one of the Koontz books I read again and again. 7y
Lizpixie @Bookgirl those clown heads where you put balls in their mouths to win prizes in the carnival, they always freak me out. 7y

I always believe that there's more decency in the world than cruelty. The world may turn out evil but there's always someone out there who'll stand up for humanity. Thank you for keeping my faith in decency @DeanKoontz

#funfridayphoto. I'm not completely sure this was my first adult book... But my mom was a Koontz fan, and I snuck a couple off from her shelves and read them before she realized it. Once she knew I was reading horror, she introduced me to Stephen King too. I don't read horror anymore, but was all over it in high school!

Gayan I love this book. 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 Oh yes! Those early Koontz books were something else! 8y
