A man is severely injured in a mysterious accident, receives an outrageous sum in legal compensation, and has no idea what to do with it. Then, one night, an ordinary sight sets off a series of bizarre visions he cant quite place. How he goes about bringing his visions to lifeand what happens afterwardmakes for one of the most riveting, complex, and unusual novels in recent memory. Remainder is about the secret world each of us harbors within, and what might happen if we were granted the power to make it real. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Pickpick

Throughout this book I kept thinking about unfettered capitalism and the impunity with which the wealthy move through the world, how in a capitalist economy, enough wealth gives a person license to stop thinking of other people as people but rather as objects, or worse than objects because in capitalist societies, objects have value.

Basically, I find this book intriguing and depressing. So, a qualified "Pick," I guess.

Fr3NcHtOaSt How do you like the kobo? I have a kindle but wondering how the kobo is 2y
ImperfectCJ @Fr3NcHtOaSt I like it a lot. It's easier to get library books on it (if the library uses Overdrive), and I find it more responsive when I'm taking notes on it than my Paperwhite. 2y
Fr3NcHtOaSt @ImperfectCJ I use libby to get my library books on kindle. Don‘t ever use the notes function on kindle so I can‘t speak for that but overall I‘ve been pleased with my kindle paperwhite 2y

ImperfectCJ @Fr3NcHtOaSt you can get library books directly on the kobo (Overdrive is built in, and Libby is part of Overdrive). I usually use the Libby app and then they automatically show up on the kobo when I sync it, no extra step through my Amazon account. I also like that I'm not supporting Amazon and that I can get library books from my non-Overdrive library, with an extra step, but I know those aren't going to be as important to everyone 2y
Fr3NcHtOaSt @ImperfectCJ a lot of times I just download books elsewhere and convert with an app I have on my phone and email to my kindle via the kindle email address. Works great that way too. 2y
ImperfectCJ @Fr3NcHtOaSt If what you have works for you, there's not much reason to change. These are just the things I like about the kobo I have compared to the Paperwhite. 2y
Fr3NcHtOaSt @ImperfectCJ thanks. I was just curious is all 2y

I saw this question on Facebook. I think for me, it is this book.

BkClubCare Let‘s see.... Geek Love comes to mind. Calvino‘s Winter Traveler one (full title escapes me), I am sure I have read something weird and jus can‘t remember. 🤔 6y
JPeterson The most recent one that comes to mind is 6y
AmyG @BkClubCare That‘s my pick...Geek Love. 6y

keithmalek "How to Talk to Your Cat About Gun Safety" by Zachary Auburn. 6y
Soubhiville Geek Love is a strange one @BkClubCare Most recently 6y
Mimi28 That was a Liberty recommendation a couple of years ago. Remember when she did it individually for everyone who asked? 6y
MaleficentBookDragon The Vegetarian and 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @BkClubCare If on a Winter‘s Night, a Traveler is one of my favorites ❤️ My pick would for weirdest would probably be 6y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I also found this to be weird as well 6y
McGonagall I tried reading Naked lunch when I was 14, and it was weird. Maybe I was too young for it 😆 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @LeahBergen I‘m planning to read Raw Shark soon! Looks weird, in a good way 5y

I love a book bargain and will never stop shopping from Book Outlet, but ... sometimes an overzealous remainder mark makes me a wee bit 😡. Anyone else?

#😡
#EmojiNov

RealLifeReading Yeah all the time. But the prices are just too good! 6y
Dolly I'm in the dark. What is that mark? 6y
readordierachel Not a fan of that at all. I'd rather have to deal with a sticker. 6y
See All 26 Comments
LeahBergen @Dolly It‘s a mark that booksellers or distributors put on unsold stock before sending it to be sold at a discount. I believe it‘s done so the book can‘t be returned for original price. 6y
LeahBergen @ReadOrDieRachel Exactly. There isn‘t a sticker out there that can stump ME. 😆 6y
monalyisha @leahbergen @readordierachel Omg I hate the stickers. I can get them off just fine... but that sticky residue they leave behind? Do you guys use something to get it off? I had a coworker who used Goo Gone, which was actually pretty effective but it was so oily! 6y
readordierachel @monalyisha When I worked at a used bookstore, we used a little lighter fluid and a razor blade to scrape off the stickers. Works like a charm. 6y
ValerieAndBooks It‘s pretty annoying when you‘re reading and realize the mark has bled through to the page(s) itself 😡. But, the prices are good 🤷‍♀️ 6y
rubyslippersreads Yes. No need to overdo the dark mark. 😄 6y
shawnmooney Me too! 😡 6y
Leftcoastzen Dots and lines ,dots and lines , they haunt my dreams ! 6y
Leftcoastzen In some cases , if you use a blow dryer, the gunk will release and go with the sticker.not always and be mindful not to get Book too hot. 6y
batsy Yeah! Love the prices, hate the mark 🙁 6y
moranadatter I dislike remainder marks, in general, but those books are great candidates for defacing. I bet I could turn them into pretty edge designs. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds Oohhhh those annoy me 😡😡😡. @monalyisha - eucalyptus oils on a tissue will get the residue off as well but you need to be fast, make sure it doesn‘t stain and wipe the book down with say windex (Also on tissue) immediately after to make sure no oil remains. 6y
Avanders @monalyisha non-acetone nail polish remover and a cotton ball. Works like a charm! (Just, ya know, it‘s liquid so don‘t soak it too much...) 6y
Mdargusch So annoying! 6y
monalyisha @avanders OooOo I think the non-acetone nail polish remover is actually something I usually have on-hand. Score! Thanks. 🤗 (P.S. wish I were the type of person who had eucalyptus oils ready to go. 😉) 6y
writerlibrarian A few of our patrons at the library do a variation of this. They put checks on the front page, on the last page, next to the title, they even write comments and answer each other. They are driving me 🦇. 6y
mrp27 Agreed!! 6y
LeahBergen @monalyisha A teeny bit of any oil (olive or vegetable) will help get the gummy residue off. Just don‘t try it on porous covers! A white art eraser works really well if you work in circles. 6y
LeahBergen @writerlibrarian Really?? How irritating. 😠 6y
DeborahSmall We don‘t have book outlet here so I‘ve never seen this, it would drive me mad!! Good news tips of sticker removal. Baby oil works well too💕 6y
LeahBergen @DeborahSmall Ahhh, baby oil! That‘s a good one. 👍🏻 6y
EvieBee Yes! Kills me. 6y

Not my local bookstore, but it is the one I was in most recently, while visiting a friend (who gifted me the above book as a souvenir) in San Diego. #getindie #verbatimbooks #northpark #sandiego

Mehso-so

It starts out funny and entertaining, but I can't make much out of the book's central theme, which is something about the repetition of certain moments to perfect reality and to attain authenticity. What? Maybe I'm too dumb for this, but I held on. I wanted to know how dark hyperreality can get.
