5⭐️ read

I loved this book so much that I was worried the ending would let it down, really pleased to say it totally didn‘t it was perfect.

This is dark but in a kind of fun way and I appreciated the Lovecraft references.

Really enjoyed the narrative voice and the different extracts of story from other viewpoints.

A book to lose yourself in and then to be glad it isn‘t real.

The Turners are a family who run a haunted house. They all have their issues and each of them has seen the thing, if only in a glimpse, outside their windows at night. This book was great. It had a lot of well written family drama with a bunch of ‘what?, who? What the hell is going on?‘ going through it only to realize Hamill had laid the groundwork for an end that made me smile while breaking my heart. I also realized I need to read Lovecraft👇🏼

Reggie Any ideas on which story to start with or should I just jump in? Anyways, this book was a dark and special pick! 3y
Michael_Gee This sounds great! @TheNeverendingTBR or @Taylor Do you have a recommendation for a “starter” HP Lovecraft? 3y
Taylor @GhostStories Yeah get the book “The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories,” and if you don‘t feel like reading the whole thing, read “Dagon,” “Cool Air,” “The Call of Cthulhu,” “The Colour out of Space,” and “The Whisperer In Darkness”; if you like those then read “At the Mountains of Madness” and if not don‘t bother! (edited) 3y

Reggie @GhostStories thanks for putting it out there, Michael. @Taylor and thanks for the recs. I‘m a reader who usually has borders around the story I‘m reading in his mind so it has really fascinates me when cosmic horror or something says it says it‘s related to Lovecraft blows those borders open and says look how I reach into the infinite sky. Thanks again for the suggestions. 3y
Michael_Gee @Taylor Thanks! I will add those to my list as well. I‘ve only read Cool Air out of the ones you listed. That‘s a fun one! 3y
Michael_Gee @Reggie I can‘t wait to hear what you think of Lovecraft!! 3y
Taylor @GhostStories Yeah “Cool Air” is a little gem 💎 3y
Taylor @Reggie Sure! I‘m a fan of Lovecraft. It‘s wild stuff. 3y
TheNeverendingTBR @GhostStories I started with The Tomb, it worked for me! 💀 3y
vivastory For some reason I thought you had read this one already. I'm really looking forward to it. I've only heard great things! It's not Lovecraft, but this is a great cosmic horror that I read this year 3y
Reggie @vivastory so I had an epiphany yesterday because of the goodreads review section and when you read this book I will tell you about it. I was LIVID. And part of it was at myself. Anyways whenever you get to it. 3y

Good thing I downloaded the book group book for reading while standing in line for voting. I‘ve been here about 45 minutes. Lines moving fast though, so that‘s good.

Book group next Monday. Decided I‘d better start the book. So far I‘m loving it. I‘m about 60 pages in and I downloaded it through Libby as well so I can read it when I‘m somewhere it‘s inconvenient to bring a hardback. About 3 hours of reading for me plus I watched another episode of Evil so ....66 points for #TeamSlaughter tonight. #scarathlon #cocoturns50 #readyourwayreadathon

This book was a mash-up of monsters, a coming of age tale, and a family saga. Shaun Hamill has a unique voice and writes compellingly.

The story covers multiple generations in a family who loves Lovecraft, has an interesting connection to another world of monsters, and also runs a haunted house. I loved it. 🎃

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Horror novels generally don't work that well for me - the "scary" part always just falls a bit flat. But I found the family dynamics, and the relationship of the MC and the monster, to be intriguing enough to keep me going.

Guys, look how cute my husband is making book posts on Instagram. 😍 I‘ve tried countless times to get him to join Litsy, telling him he‘d have plenty of people to discuss Stephen King and other horror novels with, but he‘s not biting. Until he finally caves one day, I guess I‘ll just enjoy his posts over there.

I enjoyed this book overall. It didn‘t always engage me, but I enjoyed thinking about the moral ambiguities brought up by the story. Fun read.

Pedrocamacho I really didn‘t expect the slight twist near the end where Noah trades his family‘s wellbeing for the wellbeing of strangers (and Megan hates him for it). I loved it. 4y

#24B4Monday #readathon

Something shockingly human happens involving monsters. This book was quite poignant, insightful, and messed up. I thought it was excellent and creative. I highly recommend it.

This is exactly how I felt about The Crucible when I read it in High School. They always demonize young women to make their "points." It made me so mad. This book as a lot of truths in it for a horror novel.

The boys are still sleeping, which means I get to start my day with a book and coffee! (Yes, I use lots of cream. I never grew out of the coffee milk stage!)

I am loving these Bones Coffee flavors! And I have it on good authority that this book is amazing! @pantheonbooks has another horror title due out that I‘m excited about, too. I‘ll share that one soon 😁

CoffeeNBooks Bones Coffee is my favorite! I like the Chocolate Raspberry flavor! 5y
AmyG I love this flavor. 5y
