I enjoyed this YA book about a girl that gets sent to the witch's version of reform school after casting a love spell on a nonmagical person. At school she befriends a vampire and makes some witch enemies. When someone starts attacking students she gets drawn into a dark and dangerous world. 3.5 stars

"Felicia Miller was crying in the bathroom."
I liked it. But don‘t know why I never picked up the other books in the series.
I always thought this look liked something I wouldn't like. It turns out, it wasn't that bad...and I even kind of liked it. I guess I was in the right mood for it.

Let's see how long I can stand the narrator mispronouncing "Hecate". It's only the name of the school this book is set at, I'm sure it won't come up that much ? #AllHallowsRead #ScreamAThon #SpookyReads #spoopy #audiobook #Libby
Quick, entertaining YA brain candy. The world is interesting and the twist at the end was fun, but I‘m not sure if I will continue with the series.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 When given the prompt to read a book with strong female friendship I‘ll admit I drew a blank, so where did I turn to... that‘s right Google. Through my search I found the book Hex Hall and boy am I glad I did! In fact, the entire time I was reading the book I kept think “How have I not had this on my to read list? How have I not heard about this book until now?”
More murder mystery than I expected with a splash of Mean Girls, but it wasn't unwelcome :) I'm definitely interested enough to go on to the next book in the series.
Anything high school related is an automatic contender for #thosepeskycliques . #backtoreading
It took me a while to get into this one, but ultimately I liked it. It's like a cross between Mean Girls (gross) and Harry Potter. I think it was the constant Mean Girls banter that put me off, but I was able to get past it about halfway through the book, and really got into the story after that. I'll definitely continue the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hex Hall audiobook while I clean out my closets and pack for the big move? I think yes!
I'm reading #ProdigiumSaga (#RachelHawkins)... honestly have many #HarryPotter reference but is a good saga 🤔 I'm at 3rd book and tomorrow I want to end it!

This whole scene is flippin' hilarious! 😂I think I might enjoy this book more than expected 😁
Mama needs a light read. YA FTW! 😄
This book definitely gave off some Harry Potter vibes. It was a good and quick read. It left me on a cliff hangar so im eager to start the next one!
I loved this book! I love Rachel Hawkins' characters. Can't wait to read more of her books.
That was a quick, fun read.Sophie is a witch. After ruining her prom with a devastatingly powerful love spell, she is sent to Hecate Hall,a reform school for other races. But Sophie is not what she seems. If you're in the mood for something light & fun, something witchy, then this is a great book for that. Is it deep & meaningful? No, but it's a great diversion for awhile. I call this type of book Throwdowns. Quick easy reads you can dive in & out of.
"So if you can heal with your touch, why are you working here like, Hagrid, or whatever"
? Love the Harry Potter reference here!
This first book in the series does take place in a kind of reform school for witches, faeries, and shapeshifters. So there are some similarities. I will need to find out what happens to Sophie and read the next book!

Where was this book when I was in high school? It's like Harry Potter and The Craft had a book baby. I'm sure haters are gonna hate when I say this, but this is what I wanted Harry Potter to be. Bravo Ms. Hawkins! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Today is clearly going to be a good day, because Hex Hall is on sale for $1.99! 😍💜👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 $3.49 for the audiobook too!
This was a pleasure to read. A light snack, to be sure, but well written, funny, and starring a strong and interesting young woman growing into her life among her fellow supernatural creatures. The dialogue is a little Gilmore Girls, which I love, and there's a good balance of dramatic tension, laughs, romance and The Feels. Actual teenagers might also enjoy it.
I am reading this lightweight, but nicely written YA about a reform/boarding school for magical kids gone wrong. It makes me happy.
My super competitive, English Major, judgmental self whispers to me: "don't put this stuff on Litsy. Better they shouldn't know that you really, seriously go on jags where you read about nothing but witches, even badly written stuff. Pretend you're reading Proust!"
Am I really the only freak who does this?

My #recommendsday pick is the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins. This series is something that speaks to my Buffy the Vampire Slayer loving heart. It's not necessarily a direct line to Buffy, but it's definitely Buffy adjacent. There is a teenage girl full of snark. She has a little bit of the chosen one thing going on too. Plus it's set in a supernatural boarding school! This series has 3 books and 1 spinoff...a spinoff that NEEDS a second book!
