My niece asked me for this middle grades graphic novel and I love reading books before sending them to her so we can discuss! Inspired by the author‘s mother‘s experiences growing up as a Jewish girl in occupied France, this graphic novel was both moving and educational—I learned a lot and felt so immersed in the story as Rachel must change her name and evade Nazi detection, moved across France by the resistance. Only complaint is the abrupt end!

This was a great perspective on the Holocaust.
It would make a great middle school read for those studying this time in history.

This middle grade graphic novel is a really moving and engaging portrayal of some of the ways Jewish children survived in hiding during the Holocaust. The way photography was incorporated into the story was really interesting too. Recommended!

This is a novel and a graphic novel written by a French woman based on her mother‘s experiences during WWII. She had to change her name from Rachel to Catherine to hide that she was Jewish. She was shuttled to various places fleeing from the Germans. The story is engaging and the illustrations are thoughtful and beautiful. 5 stars! #100YEARS100BOOKS #60 #BookSpinBingo #15 BINGO!! #BOOKED2021 #YApril book 8

I'm honestly a little over WWII fiction, there just seems to be so much of it... I did enjoy this muddle grade graphic novel though. The focus on Rachel/Catherine telling her story through photography added to the appeal for me.

Thanks for the tag @Cinfhen !😃
1. The tagged book was my last one, I think.
2. So many! If I didn't my reading life would be very limited, I think, since Norwegian is not exactly a big language.

A Jewish Girl is saved via the French resistance. She gets through WWII by changing her name, fleeing from German soldiers, bonding with other students, and by taking photos of her experiences.

I don‘t read a lot of graphic novels but I should definitely read more because I love the unique storytelling perspective this medium offers. This ARC is about a WWII photographer who helps keep hope alive by capturing beautiful moments on film.

A graphic novel set in wwii in France. One girl‘s journey as she tries to stay ahead of those who mean her harm. She takes pictures to capture her world.

MelissaSue81 Middle grade? Or Adult? My daughter hates history, but loves Graphic Novels.. this may appeal to her.

Nitpickyabouttrains @MelissaSue81 I would say for a younger reader. It deals with the issues of wwii in a gentler way, not graphic. It‘s translated from French so does assume some knowledge of European history. 5y
