Devil's Brood
Devil's Brood | Sharon Kay Penman
15 posts | 17 read | 17 to read
A.D. 1172. Henry IIs three eldest sons conspire against him and align themselves with his greatest enemy, King Louis of France, but its Eleanor of Aquitaines involvement in the plot to overthrow her husband that proves to be the harshest betrayal. As a royal family collapses and a marriage ends in all but name, the clash between these two strong-willed and passionate souls will have far-reaching and devastating consequences throughout Christendom. Devils Brood, a breathtaking and sweeping epic of a family at its breaking point, shows how two monumental figures once bound by all-consuming love became the bitterest of adversaries

#BeautifulWords #Brood May be a beautiful word although not sure the Plantagenets were a beautiful brood! Don‘t rile them whatever you do, just ask Thomas Beckett.

This is a wonderful book for those that like historical fiction, a favourite author.

#awesomeautumnbooks
I've only read half of this one but there was definitely a lot of familial troubles - sons vs fathers; wives vs husbands and of course subjects vs the King.

Pickpick

WOW is all I can say. Queen Victoria was such a mighty figure. So staunchly far ahead in a lot of her thinking and ways and yet, still very "Victorian" in others. Wonderful biography being as writing it was kind of hard as so much information had been deliberately destroyed by others.

#fictionnonfiction The wonderful Plantagenets. I'm slightly obsessed by them.

LeahBergen Me, too. This is my next book to read in this series. 😀 8y
TrishB @LeahBergen It's fab 😀 enjoy. 8y
mjdowens I am a Henry VIII junkie myself😂 8y
PirateJenny The Plantagenets are awesome. The Dan Jones book is fantastic. He is also really nice and quite amusing. Production editors rarely get to meet authors but an exception was made for me. Some days my job is stinking amazing. 8y
TrishB @mjdowens I stop at 1485 😄😄 @PirateJenny That's cool 😀 I follow Dan on fb he is quite amusing! 8y

Pickpick

I am very interested in this time period. Eleanor and Henry were such tragic people. Their family gives sibling rivalry a whole new meaning.

So what then? We just watch as Hal gallops headlong for the cliffs edge? What am I supposed to do, Eleanor? How do I reach him? She found herself blinking back tears. You must let him go, Harry. Even if he goes over that Cliff, you have to set him free
