Lucinda Beckwith Long, the mayor of Athena, has donated a set of Civil War-era diaries to the archives of Athena College. The books were recently discovered among the personal effects of an ancestor of Mrs. Long?s husband. The mayor would like wonder-librarian Charlie to preserve them as a part of the Long family legacy. This is no ordinary archiving project though, as what Charlie discovers could seriously impact both the upcoming mayoral election and her own livelihood.

I‘m still going with this series. This mystery was okay, but I appreciated Diesel‘s origin story at the end.

Another great addition in the series, and a perfect palate cleansing read. Charlie and Diesel are entangled in a diary and secrets that date back to the American Civil War. The bonus short story, in which Charlie finds Diesel at the library, reminded me of my real life rescue of Zeke from my car engine at the library so long ago. I made #Zeke model for the picture! #CatsOfLitsy

KathyWheeler This is one of my favorite mystery series, but I don‘t remember a bonus short story being included in the audiobook. I may need to go back and check. It‘s been awhile since I listened to it. 7mo
Librarybelle @KathyWheeler It was maybe 15 pages. I‘m not sure if it is only available in the hardcover edition or not. 7mo

Hooked_on_books Zeke‘s doing an excellent job modeling. I can really feel his interest in the book! 😆 7mo
Librarybelle @Hooked_on_books I think he‘s rather disappointed there are no yummies near the book! 😂 7mo

When the mayor donates the recently discovered American Civil War diaries of her husband's great x 3 grandmother to the archive, an academic and a journalist are both very keen to get their hands on them. A storm in a teacup until the diaries are stolen from Charlie's office and the academic is killed in a hit-and-run.

Another fun read which doesn't tax the brain. And the bonus short story is sweet.

Found this set in the lower stacks at my library. Booklist was recommending books way back in 1905! #LibrariansOfLitsy #Booklist #Old Books

Great, captivating story. I felt like one part of the mystery wasn't explained 100% to my satisfaction but I loved the story so much I didn't care in the end.
