Book! Book! Book! | Deborah Bruss, Tiphanie Beeke

I just painstakingly estimated all the shelves and piles in my parents' house, with a yardstick and many diagrams. The total is at least 9,835 inches, or perhaps 10k books.

Well, no apologies here. These books made me. I grew up thinking books were one of life's main delights. I grew up thinking a person should be broadly educated and interested, and have a library to match. (Continued in comment.)

TimSpalding I grew going down to my father's study at night just to scout out new sections I'd never explored before. His quixotic love of languages, with grammars and dictionaries for dozens of tongues, got me into Classics. And, eventually, the love of many books got me my career.

sixgun My grandmother and grandfather's libraries made me who I am today. I was more well read than many of my teachers. And self discovery is so much sweeter than the drudgery of instruction. 6y
