The Blue Zones Kitchen
The Blue Zones Kitchen: 100 Recipes to Live to 100 | Dan Buettner
5 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
Best-selling author Dan Buettner debuts his first cookbook, filled with 100 longevity recipes inspired by the Blue Zones locations around the world, where people live the longest. Building on decades of research, longevity expert Dan Buettner has gathered 100 recipes inspired by the Blue Zones, home to the healthiest and happiest communities in the world. Each dish--for example, Sardinian Herbed Lentil Minestrone; Costa Rican Hearts of Palm Ceviche; Cornmeal Waffles from Loma Linda, California; and Okinawan Sweet Potatoes--uses ingredients and cooking methods proven to increase longevity, wellness, and mental health. Complemented by mouthwatering photography, the recipes also include lifestyle tips (including the best times to eat dinner and proper portion sizes), all gleaned from countries as far away as Japan and as near as Blue Zones project cities in Texas. Innovative, easy to follow, and delicious, these healthy living recipes make the Blue Zones lifestyle even more attainable, thereby improving your health, extending your life, and filling your kitchen with happiness.

This has inspired me to be more plant-based in my eating. I made two of the recipes, and they did need a little doctoring.

My finished soup & blog post for #soupersundays is the Tomato Pasta Soup from the tagged cookbook. This soup is from the Ikiaria, Greece zone & it‘s thick, creamy, vegan & very low effort. Takes less than 30 minutes to make & if you use canned tomatoes, no chopping needed. It‘s the 2nd recipe I‘ve made from the book. Link to recipe is below.

RachelAmphlett I was eyeing up this book over the weekend as I‘m looking for new Mediterranean diet recipes! 5y
DebinHawaii @RachelAmphlett I‘m enjoying it—lots of good healthy meat-free recipes & many of them should work for the Mediterranean diet. (edited) 5y

I reviewed this plant-based cookbook and wellness resource this week on a book tour & I‘m really enjoying it. There are 100 recipes from the 5 blue zones in Italy, Costa Rica, Greece, Japan & California. Published by National Geographic means that the photos of the recipes, ingredients, people & recipes are gorgeous. For my review I made the Coconut Chia Pudding from Loma Linda, CA & I‘m posting a soup from Greece today. Link to review/recipe 👇🏻

I watched the Today Show and they had a story about this cookbook. I thought I‘d order it for my daughter for Christmas, only to find that it was sold out online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Powell‘s, BookDepository, etc. I finally found it in a Barnes and Noble in Springfield IL, which is where my daughter lives. Had her pick up two copies - by the time I found it I wanted a copy too!

Cinfhen This sounds great!! How are you feeling?? 5y
Annl I am going to try and find myself a copy! 5y
Tamra I tried to put it on hold thru inter library loan and of course it‘s on local only status. 😟 5y

Bklover @Cinfhen Still wearing my lovely cast (at least they change it once a week) and pretty much housebound but kids have stepped up their game a lot and things are going much better. I loved the hunt for this damn cookbook- kept me entertained for hours! 😘😘😘 5y
Bklover @Annl I think you could probably find it in stock somewhere. I did see that you can at least order it now on Amazon. Will just take a few weeks to get it. Good luck!! 5y
Bklover @Tamra Hopefully there will be more available soon!! The publisher is National Geographic Society so hopefully they will hurry up and print more! 😉 (edited) 5y
Cinfhen Glad to hear you‘re doing well 💛 5y
