For fans of Thirteen Reasons Why, This Is How It Ends, and All the Bright Places, comes a new novel about life after. How do you put yourself back together when it seems like you've lost it all? May is a survivor. But she doesn't feel like one. She feels angry. And lost. And alone. Eleven months after the school shooting that killed her twin brother, May still doesn't know why she was the only one to walk out of the band room that day. No one gets what she went through--no one saw and heard what she did. No one can possibly understand how it feels to be her. Zach lost his old life when his mother decided to defend the shooter. His girlfriend dumped him, his friends bailed, and now he spends his time hanging out with his little sister...and the one faithful friend who stuck around. His best friend is needy and demanding, but he won't let Zach disappear into himself. Which is how Zach ends up at band practice that night. The same night May goes with her best friend to audition for a new band. Which is how May meets Zach. And how Zach meets May. And how both might figure out that surviving could be an option after all.

The Lucky Ones by Liz Lawson was emotional, heartfelt story about a school shooting that takes place and how May and Zach both dealing with it in their own separate ways. This story is told in two alternate points of view. You have May who's twin brother died in the school shooting.

I bolt across the lawn, squinting through the inky black. The streetlamp behind me casts a pool of light, but it‘s weak. Clouds block the moon.

This was a toss up between a “pick” or a “so-so”. It was a really easy read (I finished it in less than a day) about very heavy material. To me, the only downside was that the character development seemed lackluster. Also, there was a lot of build up for a pretty abrupt ending. 3/5 ⭐️

This was one of those books where you don‘t know if you hated it or loved it. I‘m going to go with love it since this book doesn‘t have many reviews and I don‘t want to bring its percent down. At the beginning the author loved using abbreviations that were really weird and threw me off. And at the end I was supposedly have sympathy for one of the characters who did some bad stuff. 3⭐️

In my opinion, it was well written. I can't imagine myself going through a shooting at school as a teenager or as an adult at my work place. It's definitely a traumatic event.

May is the sole survivor of a school shooting, one that took her twin brother Jordan leaving May alone, angry and guilt ridden. Zach was once a popular high school student with a girlfriend and lots of friends loses them all when his mother takes on the case as legal defense of the shooter.

It is intense, emotional and honest. It is not just about the school shooting but about the survivors after, mental health, and dealing with the aftermath.

#SundayShelfie Here‘s my YA section of my TBR bookshelf. The tagged book is an ARC that comes out in April I was lucky enough to snag from my local indie bookstore. Most of the others were purchased from the library book sales for 50 cents or so (except for the BOTM titles). Sort of a ragtag group of books but I am excited to read them all nonetheless (as soon as I stop checking out other library books). 😀❤️📚

TerriGreen So fun! I don‘t think I‘ve read any of them. I know what you mean about libraries!! #readyoshelves 4y
