This is a failed book. No plot no enlightenment no value seemingly no purpose. Someone can prove me wrong.

Loved this one!

It was a great audiobook with just what you expect from a Lemony Snicket read. Fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events should add this one too their TBR.

CogsOfEncouragement I enjoyed this audiobook too. My favorite Snicket is the All the Wrong Questions series. (edited) 2y
Addison_Reads @CogsOfEncouragement I haven't read those. Thank you for the recommendation. 2y

If you really loved the narrative voice of Lemony Snicket in A Series of Unfortunate Events, then this book, where Lemony Snicket is trying to figure out which of his breakfast foods might have poisoned him, is for you. It‘s very rambly and is less a mystery than it is short interesting stories and philosophical musings. I enjoyed it but was glad it was short.

My teen son and I enjoyed Lemony Snicket books together when he was younger. When I saw this was included on audible I had us give it a try. My son didn‘t care for this one so I was going to finish it in my own. BUT it was suddenly no longer available on audible. I‘m not sure what happened. BUT then I found it on libby. I finished it up today. I asked my son to guess how it turned out. He surprised me when he guessed correctly!
I give it 4/5.

Is this a children‘s book? It can be, but it‘s not just that. Snicket (AKA Daniel Handler) shares his most tender tale yet. While the title suggests this book is about poison, it‘s really an artistic musing on creativity, humanity, and the bewildering experience of life. So this book can be read on multiple levels. 1) a little story about a possibly poisoned breakfast. 2) a larger story about the mysteries and beauties of life. Both are true! ☠️

A brief, entertaining and philosophical fable for all ages. #Audiobook is read by Patrick Warburton in a manner I‘m not sure how to describe… perhaps with the aesthetic of a flaneur. This worked for me but may be off putting for some listeners.

It has never interested me much to learn the names of birds because, of course, you are not really learning their names at all, just names we call them. “Red-breasted robin!” a red-breasted robin might repeat in astonishment. “That‘s not my name and why are you focusing on my breasts? That‘s inappropriate.”

Zeno was an ancient Greek philosopher who ended up being tortured by people who didn‘t like his ideas. Nowadays philosophers are hardly ever tortured because most people ignore them completely.

I had a tingly memory about the first time I had read it, when a librarian of my acquaintance had slipped it into my hands. There are some librarians who are so trustworthy and so interesting that you know any book they recommend will be worth your time and I didn‘t even wait until I‘d walked home to start the book she‘d given me.

Cathythoughts Lovely picture 👍🏻❤️ 3y
Lindy @Cathythoughts Thanks! My friend Edward was the official photographer for a poetry event and he snapped this unbeknownst to me while I was in a quiet corner before the show started. 3y

I liked this book, but I was also slightly bored at times, and for such a short book, that shouldn't be possible. I quite enjoyed the concept, but I wish it hadn't been so... Lemony Snicket-y. I also liked the ending, but I am betting lots won't.

Yesterday was my last day before returning to work this morning, so I read as much as I could. Caught up on Strawberry Spring, but now have to wait for the weekly drops. Finished Poison for Breakfast and started Survive the Night, made progress on A Night in the Lonesome October and A Killer by Design. I wish I could take all of October off and crawl into a book den!

Have you read the new Lemony Snicket story? This book is a murder mystery as the murdered is himself. I love when Lemony teaches as he writes and even the first paragraph does that! If I was you, I‘d be very afraid of eating breakfast ever again! 😉

Absolutely delightful. Lemony Snicket has received a deadly communique alerting him to the fact that his breakfast has been poisoned! As he traces the origins of each of the elements that made up his breakfast, the author ruminates on writing, storytelling, and connection. I was charmed throughout!
