The Daughters of Foxcote Manor
The Daughters of Foxcote Manor | Eve Chase
Readers of Lisa Jewell and Simone St. James will delight in this haunting, touching story of mothers, daughters, and belonging--and the devastating lies families tell themselves in order to survive. An isolated forest estate. A family with a terrible secret. The discovery that changes everything. England, 1970. On the one-year anniversary of the Harrington family's darkest night, their beautiful London home goes up in flames. Mrs. Harrington, the two children, and live-in nanny Rita relocate to Foxcote Manor, ostensibly to recuperate. But the creeping forest, where lost things have a way of coming back, is not as restful as it seems. When thirteen-year-old Hera discovers a baby girl abandoned just beyond their garden gate, this tiniest, most wondrous of secrets brings a much-needed sunlit peace, until a visitor detonates the family's tenuous happiness. All too soon a body lies dead in the woods. Forty years later, London-based Sylvie is an expert at looking the other way. It's how she stayed married to her unfaithful husband for more than twenty years. But she's turned over a new leaf, having left him for a fresh start. She buried her own origin story decades ago, never imagining her teenage daughter would have a shocking reason to dig the past up--and to ask Sylvie to finally face the secrets that lead her back to Foxcote Manor.

Another one that‘s been hanging out in my library pile for longer than I‘d like to admit, but now that I‘m actively reading it, it‘s going So Quickly! So twisty and full of secrets that I can‘t wait to uncover. #thedaughtersoffoxcotemanor #evechase

Outside a remote manor house in an idyllic wood, a baby girl is found.
The Harrington family takes her in and disbelief quickly turns to joy. They're grieving a terrible tragedy of their own and the beautiful baby fills them with hope, lighting up the house's dark, dusty corners.

EadieB Desperate not to lose her to the authorities, they keep her secret, suspended in a blissful summer world where normal rules of behavior - and the law - don't seem to apply.
But within days a body will lie dead in the grounds. And their dreams of a perfect family will shatter like glass. Years later, the truth will need to be put back together again, piece by piece . . .

EadieB From the author of Black Rabbit Hall, The Daughters of Foxcote Manor is an emotional, thrilling book about family secrets and belonging - and how we find ourselves when we are most lost.
This is an emotional book about family secrets. The characters are unique and the plot is one that kept the pages turning until the very end. There are multiple POV's that go from past to present.

EadieB It is a well-written story and worth the time to read it. The setting provided a mysterious and spooky element to the story. If you love mystery then you will enjoy it. I'm looking forward to another book by Eve Chase. 2y

As she did in Black Rabbit Hall, Chase has constructed a complex story that is rife with unbridled emotion held in check until it isn‘t. She writes relationships with a deft hand and develops her characters in ways that evoke a visceral response. #12Booksof2020 @andrew65 Full review at https://itsallaboutthebook.org/2020/07/16/daughters-of-foxcote-manor-by-eve-chas...

Family drama: dysfunctional family-couple relationships, infidelity, terrible parenthood style, murder “mystery”, end also too dramatic. A lovely person will almost save everything. Most twists are quite predictable and there are too many coincidences. It goes form ok-to so-so. 3.3⭐️

In short, The Daughters of Foxcote Manor has it all – it has romance, it has heartbreak, it has… humanity. I read it in just over a day and it only took me that long because I still had laundry and dishes to do too.

I absolutely loved this. I started to tie things together towards the end as everyone‘s true identities were revealed, and I was so proud of myself! I love stories like this, where a coincidence is actually fate hard at work.

Family lost in drama and mystery. Not my genre. I like family stories, this felt off. Nice division made between the nanny desiring to do what‘s right for the family - it helps and backfires. The first third of the book was slow pickup, but once it got going it was Enticing. Confused on whom to follow. Looking back it was a good setup, but still felt like I had to force myself sit and read. Enjoyed second gift most #onceuponabookclubbox #ouabc

Alright. Here‘s a family drama story told through two different timelines. A prestigious family flees a house fire to their old forest joke? Sounds good. Finding a baby at the gates? Interesting. Dramatic family through the raising omg the baby? Alright.. what I like about this noon club is receiving these types of books; those I‘d never find by myself. #OnceUponABookClub #ouabc
