I absolutely loved this book although it has been some time since I read it. The book is written through Marcelo's (a high functioning autistic teenager) point of view as he spends the summer working for his dad.

A really nice book with a good portrayal of a young autistic adult finding his own path.

#LiteraryLove Day 25: Accdg to Fats‘ review: “Marcelo Sandoval is a 17yo boy with a cognitive disorder that is similar to Asperger‘s syndrome. No doctor has been able to identify it. Marcelo likes to address himself & the people around him in the third person, has a pervasive interest in religion, & loves Halflinger ponies. I should also mention that he is tall, handsome, & has a well-toned body” a #heartthrob! Fats review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7E4

I‘m finally getting back on track with my Litsy required reading! I enjoyed this book. It wasn‘t perfect but I‘m surprised I liked it as much as I did. I do feel that some of the characters were not as well developed as they could have been, but overall this is an interesting subject and worth reading! @cobwebmoth it will be headed to you sometime this week! Sorry for the delay! 😟

I have some conflicting emotions about this one. It tackles some interesting moral dilemmas, and has great Latinx rep - first book I have read that features a PoC MC on the autism spectrum. But it is not an #OwnVoices book, which gives me some pause.

There is some excellent reflection and questioning by the characters on the value of integrating into a western normative society.

I typically refrain from sharing quotes when I‘m reading a Litsy traveling book, but this just gave me all the feels. 💖💖💖

There are so many things that don‘t fit into a simple box called disability, disorder or illness; autism is one of those things. There is not one “normal” type of brain, and being neurodivergent does not mean that you have an “abnormal” brain.

Don‘t you hate when life gets in the way of reading? Every time I tried to pick up this book in the last 2 days something (or someone) interfered. 😫

So I am settling in with this tonight and will try really, really hard not to fall asleep right away, because I am TIRED!. 😴 🛏

This is such a crazy busy time of year! But I hope to finish quickly and have this off to @JenlovesJT47 soon!

Loving the #novelteabookclub package that came in the mail today from @SkeletonKey 🎉🎉Thank you!!

I drink lemon ginger tea every night, and I‘m guessing the throat comfort will come in handy during allergy season! I love that you included the tea you have every morning (my daily morning tea is Dilmah Ceylon), and I can‘t wait to try the Capital teas while reading your book pick. Thank you for all the goodies!

Bailedbailed

I really enjoyed this book. It was in a similar vein to "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime." Marcelo is a sweet, kind seventeen year old boy on the autism spectrum who is forced to work at his father's law firm, in the real world.

Auntynanny I accidentally marked this as "bailed." It is most definitely a "pick." 7y

My book box came in from Blue Spider Attic!

My boyfriend got me a three month subscription for my birthday. I'd say he did a great job (though the romance novel is becauce he thought Jane Austen was romance, but I get a kick out of it).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1000/5 stars

I want to applaud Francisco for this amazingly written book. Marcelo has what can only be described as Asperger's syndrome, he is very perceptive and has many skills that autistic kids possess but are often not acknowledged by anyone.

Marcelo lived a sheltered life before working at the law firm and the character development and transformation was very accurate and truly inspiring. Would read again and recommend to all.

This book touches on Autism Spectrum Disorder, racism, religion, and family issues. Well-rounded conflicts. Marcelo's voice takes a bit getting used to, but once you do, he hooks you in.
