Really enjoyed this one! I loved both of the MCs and glad to see such an important topic (young people voting and being active in politics) addressed.

This was a great book! I love stories set over the course of a day, and watching the misadventures unfold was funny and also heartwarming. I love the 2 main leads and the audiobook was fab. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nebklvr A very thoughtful young adult romance 3y

I read the description of this book and thought it would be way more political than it was. It‘s pretty short so I figured I would just finish it, but the whole two points of view both first person thing was a deal breaker.

This is the most recent book I‘ve finished that has a green cover. This was a great YA book about two high school students who want to vote for the first time. I really liked it.

It was pretty good. It just flew by and was a welcome distraction. I also liked how it didn‘t get too political or try to tell you who to vote for.

rjsthumbelina I finished a voting book today too! (Yes No Maybe So) It did kind of tell you who to vote for, in that it talked a lot about how harmful it is when political figures have discriminatory agendas against certain races and/or religions. But I was okay with it bc I agreed! Otherwise, I definitely wouldn't have finished reading it 3y
BookishGirl06 @rjsthumbelina I might read that one next. I‘m Probably too many voting books but I still want to do it now 3y
rjsthumbelina I also plan to read Red White & Royal Blue this week! Lol 3y

This is a quick read that covers a lot. Marva is a teenager passionate about politics, pets, and racial inequality. Eager to vote, she arrives early and overhears a peer‘s struggle. We see Mia grapple with the breakdown of her relationship, the possible loss of a pet, and her desire to make the world better. In Duke we see loss, the outlet of music, and being a young black man in America. This is an important and attainable read to a generation.

It‘s the first week of New Reads November on my pod... but I wouldn‘t have dropped a new episode on Election Day if I didn‘t have the ~perfect~ book. And I have the perfect book! On Episode 119, my guest (Cayla from bookstagram‘s bookitqueen) joins me to chat about voter suppression, race, Instagram pets, and more. It‘s the perfect thing to listen to while you wait at the polls or feel your feelings about the results! 🇺🇸 Link to listen in bio.

I enjoyed this so much! The two main characters are very endearing and it was nice to read about young people and voting. Timely read for this week!

IRL, if you haven‘t voted yet be sure to check your registration and polling place!

My 2 #bookspin and #doublespin books for this month I didn‘t label the numbers in original post but that‘s ok. I‘m actually reading the double spin pic (tagged) first. This worked out really well since I‘m reading both of these this month anyways

Combing romance and politics. Who knew that could be a winning YA combination? Heavy topics are covered but in a realistic (not beat you over the head)wsy.

I want to apologize for being absent from Litsy recently. My anxiety about going back into the classroom has been really high. I am way behind on my reviews but these are the books I read by black authors in July. They were some amazing reads and review are coming soon. Thanks so much to everyone that joined in 🖤

KVanRead I feel so bad for teachers right now!! We ask so much of you in the best of times and this is definitely not the best of times. Sending good vibes to you 🤗🍀💗 4y
CoffeeK8 Please don‘t feel bad about being absent. It‘s ok. I feel the same way, plus all the unknowns. 💕💕💕 4y
britt_brooke Thank you for all you do! Sending hugs and all the good vibes your way for a safe and healthy school year. My boys start a hybrid schedule tomorrow and my anxiety level is ... high. 4y
hermyknee Jody! I took a complete social media break for all of July and most of August because my anxiety has been through the roof. We started back—teachers are on campus teaching virtually from our rooms. Kids are scheduled to return September 8th. 😱😭 4y

Everything the synopsis promises. Touches on many social issues briefly without being over bearing. Loved it. Cannot wait to dive into Brandy Colbert's backlist

New Brandy Colbert out today! I too was excited to vote in my first election on my 18th birthday—Nov 4 2008 (though I did get to vote in the primary because I would be 18 by the general and was registered.) I did not get a meet-cute out of my excitement but I did get Obama so.

Thanks to #partner @NetGalley for the digital ARC of Brandy Colbert's The Voting Booth in exchange for an honest review. The book releases Tuesday, July 7.⠀

Brandy Colbert's The Voting Booth is a perfect YA book. I was grinning for nearly the duration of the book, which alternates between the points of view of two high school seniors. Check out the rest of my review at unabridgedpod.com!
