pickAt first, I was unsure if I would like this story. I was unsure through the first few hours of the audio book. I was unsure until I realized how hooked I was. That I wanted to know what would happen to the girls. How they would deal with this mess. If they would get out of it.
Would I listen to books about the others girls as well? Would I listen to a whole series with them? I so would!
pan2 stars. I finished the book because I hoped it would resolve itself. It did not. I was sadly disappointed. 😕
pickAlexis and her friends can do magic, but then something goes very wrong and the attempts to fix it aren‘t much better. This is a fun story and a nice look at female friendships in young (high school) women. I like Gailey‘s adult novels a bit better than this one, but still really enjoyed it.

pickThis is a book about friendship and the lengths we go to protect & support each other in crisis. Alexis and her friends are magic but when a spell goes wrong and they try to fix it, they make things worse. Gailey does an amazing job of describing the bittersweet in life and relationships, the dynamics of a large friend group, and the anxiety of relying on those you care about for help. Also I loved the mysterious way the magic works in this world.
pickThis book about six high school friends who can do magic but whose lives are changed when Alexis accidentally kills her prom date, Josh. An excellent book in its representation of the diverse characters in terms of their sexuality, family statuses (adopted), race and ethnicity, and interests (makes tutorials, swimming), and female friendships. Despite a young adult novel, there is a lot of exploration of Alexis‘s relationship with her dads.

pickAmazing! Loved the writing style of the author, and thought every single character was fully-developed! The story was silly and it was mystical. It was heartwarming and at times heartbreaking. This book was brilliant!

pickThis one is a coming of age story about a group of witches in their senior year of high school. We see the lengths they will go to support each other no matter what the cost. It‘s about finding yourself, being true to yourself and who you have always been. Also a great read for LGBTQ. This book is weird and filled with magic, romance, and unquestioned friendship.
pickI loved this book. And what I particularly loved about it is how it refuses to engage in so many of tropes we expect in YA. The story focuses on a group of young women, who are never catty or competitive but are actually just great friends. Even the parents are great—understanding and very functional.

I don‘t usually quote from the acknowledgements, but this just sums up this gem so well. The (literal) magic and relationships btwn the 6 main characters were fantastic and I 💕them all. Also, some really beautiful parenting moments, which are sometimes lacking in YA.
pickA YA novel by one of my favorite authors about 6 best friends with magical powers working together to protect Alexis after she accidentally kills a boy on prom night. The magic feels almost incidental (though central to the plot) while the relationships between the friends and Alexis's journey of self-discovery are the real heart of the story.
