I‘m super behind on my #MtCookbook posts! I made these brownies back at the beginning of Feb and they were pretty good! I did use a different size pan (I think they would have been too thin if I used the size in the recipe) so they needed a lot longer in the oven but otherwise worked well!

My seventh recipe done!

Librarybelle They look delicious! 2mo
janeycanuck @Librarybelle They were! And have frozen quite well, if you‘re the type to need a little sweet tucked away to easily pull out. 2mo
Librarybelle Good to know!! 2mo

Tamra You went all out - even with frosting! My kids would be impressed. I‘m usually not patient enough to make frosting after baking anything. 2mo
janeycanuck @Tamra I mixed it up while they were in the oven and it was pretty quick with a hand mixer. I should have waited a bit longer before putting it on cause it did get a bit melty but I wanted to cut in! 2mo
mabell They look delicious! And I love the frosting! 1mo
janeycanuck @mabell quite enjoyable! I was sceptical about the icing when I was mixing it up but it turned out great 1mo
mabell I‘m definitely going to try this! After the last batch that didn‘t turn out, I got a new pan just for making brownies 😄 1mo

Well a #MtCookbook week 4 flop! This is the second or third recipe I‘ve made from this book and for some reason they fail for me!
I thought these would be a fun, quick afternoon project. Whip them up and bake 25-29 min. Not so much! They came together easily, but they baked and they baked and they baked! I check every few minutes (as things can turn from batter to overdone in the blink of an eye), but it just kept coming out batter. I lost track…

mabell Of exactly how long, but they went maybe an hour and 15? It was ridiculous! They didn‘t end up in the trash, as they‘re still edible brownies but not terrific. And it was quite discouraging. Now I‘m nervous about trying out recipes from her pretty holiday book 😆 3mo
Tamra Oh nooooo! I am not much of a baker, so I don‘t have much confidence in this area. This would be really frustrating & disappointing. I don‘t have the book (borrowed), but I copied the Kitchen Sink cookies recipe bc they turned out so tasty. (edited) 3mo
mabell @Tamra It was pretty frustrating! I‘m definitely hesitant to try another one - lots of time, ingredients, etc. to have it go to waste. The kitchen sink sound good, and i know the recipe works for someone else, so that helps! 3mo

TheBookHippie Oh I loathe it when this happens. How frustrating!!! 3mo
mabell @TheBookHippie It really was! And I keep trying to figure out what went wrong! 3mo
janeycanuck Oh no! I've made a few from this cookbook and have had great results. I wonder what is going wrong for you 3mo
mabell @janeycanuck I‘m not sure - it‘s just kooky! I think in this case it may have partially been the pan. I‘m not calling defeat yet 🤣 Which ones have you made? 3mo
janeycanuck @mabell The peanut butter, a couple of the pan-banging, the brown butter choc chip plus a few others I can‘t remember off the top my head. But I did make the cakey brownies today and I did use a smaller pan than called for (8x11 instead of 9x13) and they needed almost twice the amount of time she called for. I haven‘t had that with any of the cookies, though. 3mo
mabell @janeycanuck I‘ll have to try some others. I know my husband would be happy to have the peanut butter! What did you think of the pan banging? 2mo
janeycanuck @mabell OMG, they are amazing. First, they are delicious. Second, they are a great stress reliever when you get to pick the pan up and drop it. I still make the original website chocolate chip one (there are some changes to it in the book) and I don‘t chop chocolate, I just use chocolate chips. If you can find a European style butter, they‘ll be even better. 2mo
mabell @janeycanuck ha, I could see the banging being therapeutic 🤣 She does like to use chopped chocolate, but chips are so much easier. That‘s interesting that you had better results with the European style butter! I noticed she was also very opinionated on butter choice in the introduction. I thought maybe those were my problems - chips & wrong butter -when the cookies didn‘t turn out like the intended style (still ok cookies, but not the right type) 2mo

Yesterday one kid graduated, tomorrow the other one starts finals. First up math which…is not his favorite…So, to make it a little more bearable for himself and everyone else, he‘s baking Snickerdoodles for the class. (There may be 100 cookies in the book but the snickerdoodles are a particular favorite!) Not a bad way to start four days of final exams. Not bad at all…

thereadingpal Congrats to the first kid and good luck to the second! 2y

Me - “So many tantalizing cookie recipes to try”

Also me - “You don‘t have time to make cookies”

Me in response - “Clearly your priorities are all out of whack”

Such a gorgeous book! Excellent photography, great description, and a nice balance of classic and adventurous recipes.

Lreads There‘s always time for cookies! ☺️🍪 2y

mabell @QuietlyLaura I agree! Fortunately my better self prevailed 😉 There are definite cookie plans for today! 2y
mabell @Chrissyreadit @BiblioLitten @BennettBookworm I‘m intrigued by these - They are on my to-make list! In the meantime, I‘m going to try one of the simpler, yet still delicious sounding, recipes. Homemade cookies are the best! 2y
Chrissyreadit What did you make today? I‘m craving cookies…. 2y
mabell @Chrissyreadit Well fortunately/unfortunately, I can‘t be a bad influence because the cookie baking had to be postponed. Instead I had to make soup and bread, but on the plus side, we have lemon rice soup and cheese bread! Hopefully tomorrow nothing will transpire to interfere with the cookie plans 😆 2y
Chrissyreadit Ohhh!!! Can you send me your recipe for lemon rice soup? I had an amazing one at a Mediterranean restaurant and want to find a similar one 2y
mabell @Chrissyreadit Absolutely! I‘ll send you the link. It isn‘t vegan (eggs, chicken broth), but maybe you could find substitutes? 2y
mabell @Chrissyreadit I got the link to paste here 😊 2y
Chrissyreadit I can always find ways to veganize. 😘 thank you! 2y
CaramelLunacy Those sound so tasty! 2y
mabell @CaramelLunacy They are still on the to-try list, but we are definitely going to get to those! Next up, we may make the Neapolitan cookies 😄 2y

I checked this one out from the library again and the ribbon bookmarked our favorite recipe, as if nobody else had checked out the book since! 😆

Kitchen Sink cookies are so good and I‘m not the huge cookie fan my husband and kids are - they gobble them up. Kieffer‘s recipe contains pretzels and potato chips so the salt balances the sweet butterscotch chips.

I HINTED about this cookbook and another to my kids. We‘ll see if I get any results. 😜

Cathythoughts 🤞🏻I hope they took the hint 😁… looks great. So exciting to find I new recipe you like 2y

Second batch from this book. They aren‘t as photogenic as the chocolate ones and require pan banging for the cookies to spread. My son loved them because they are so sweet - I could only eat part of one, but liked the variety of flavors & textures. Fussy baking in they have to be rotated once & banged once and then fully cooled on the baking sheet. (I gave up on that last bit because the recipe makes a boat load and I was ready to be done!)

AlaMich I‘ve made a cookie similar to this one, except it‘s called a compost cookie. 😂 3y
Tamra @AlaMich 😜 that‘s even better! 3y
LeahBergen Yeah, I was unsure about that pan banging. I prefer to just fling them in the oven and pull them out when they‘re done. 😆 3y
Tamra @LeahBergen yes, I barely have the patience to do even that because I am not much into fancy pants baking. 😉 (edited) 3y

Tamra @LeahBergen they did turn out well! Definitely give it a go - it‘s one of the less fussy recipes. 3y
Tamra @Cathythoughts thank you, though my kids at their ages would disagree. 😅 Comes with the job. 3y

I love to bake and this book gives me plenty to test. First up were oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. The author uses her pan-banging technique, which requires dropping the pan every couple of minutes at the end to crisp up and almost carmelize the cookies. Library staff loved them. While tasty, I prefer my oatmeal cookies fluffy. Next up: Mixed Berry Crumble Bars.

TracyReadsBooks My son and I have started baking our way through this cookbook together and it‘s so much fun! 3y
Mitch @TracyReadsBooks we keep promising ourselves we‘ll progress on from cookie no 1 - but they‘re so nice! What numbers have been your favourites? 3y
TracyReadsBooks We‘ve had the cookbook only a short time & are just getting started baking. We are going in no particular order. My son picks the cookie, I make sure we have the ingredients & off we go. We started with #11, the Snickerdoodles, & loved them. This week it‘s #1 & I rather suspect, as was the case at your house, much of the batch will be eaten while still warm. Can‘t wait to find some new favorite cookies! 3y
TracyReadsBooks I posted that too quickly and forgot to ask if you have any particular favorites? 3y
Mitch @TracyReadsBooks we loved the chocolate chip and the oatmeal and raisin have disappeared from the tin very fast! 3y
