Trot & Cap‘n Bill have fallen through a great whirlpool, & escaped into a magical land they don‘t know. Their travels will bring them new friends & old, & of course a love story & a political coup.

I love Trot getting to know as much as we do about Oz. The friendship between her & Bill is genuinely delightful. & I loved seeing a new corner of Oz. But there are recurring issues of beauty = goodness & ugly/disfigurement = evil. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

BookmarkTavern There‘s a joke somewhere in here that Glinda is Oz‘s CIA. Which just kind frustrated me a little, that Glinda knew about the cruelty in Jinxland, and was just like, “oh well” until they get visitors where it would reflect badly on Ozma. 5mo
Clare-Dragonfly Yes, it really infuriates me that Glinda knows everything that is happening everywhere, but doesn‘t help until some cute human child runs awry of the problems! 5mo
BookmarkTavern @Clare-Dragonfly Yeah, if there was some quirk to the book of records where it was delayed, or it only showed things really out of the ordinary, like visitors from another world, I‘d feel better about it. As it is, we‘re regularly told Glinda checks the book often so how much does she ignore? 5mo

I've finished another three Oz books. Just one more and I'll be caught up for #beyondtheyellowbrickroad. Of these three, The Patchwork Girl of Oz was my favorite.

BookmarkTavern That‘s such a gorgeous cover! 5mo

This book struck a decent balance between “plot” and “random punny adventures.” Some of the things that irk me about other Oz books were definitely present here (are Glinda and Ozma *really* all that great?). But I just loved Trot, Cap‘n Bill, and the Orks so much that I can‘t downgrade the rating. #BeyondtheYellowBrickRoad

#2023Book14
This might be the first Oz novel that was fine on its own even before Dorothy showed up. And even though the book is named for him, the Scarecrow isn‘t really that important to the overall plot.

November 15: #endpages - #OZ books really have the best end pages. They feature the cast of characters together in fun & interesting ways. Like in “Scarecrow” ... conga line, anyone? #lilbookishthanks #vintageoz #vintagebooks #oldbooks #illustrations

Betty Love the Oz books! Sweet memories of third grade when Mrs. Mize read from the Oz books after lunch 8y

When I was a kid Narnia, Middle-earth, and Oz were all equally weighted and the characters and locations all mingled freely in my head. I read through Baum's 14, but haven't revisited them since I was in maybe 3rd grade. I've been rereading them in 40-page chunks between novels and just finished up book 9. When I was a kid these were adventure novels, now they're just goofy low-stakes fun. #OzReread

This made me chuckle. Apparently the marvelous land of Oz has lost some of its luster for ol' Button-Bright. #OzReread
