pickI read this for work. It‘s the One Maryland One Book selection for 2024. It‘s a fictional account of the aftermath of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010. Told through multiple character‘s POV‘s it really works to create a whole picture of the aftermath & how it affects ordinary people. It‘s beautifully written! So many long paragraphs proved a challenge for my adhd brain but it‘s such a powerful read. You need to read this one!
pickA heartbreaking collection of interconnected stories revolving around a group of islanders on Haiti, before during and after the devastating 2010 earthquake. It takes some time to figure out how the characters are related but it all comes together beautifully. My BIG GRIPE was the sole narration for a multi pov story and the reader (female) does nothing to distinguish her voice between characters. Definitely go print!!

pickThis was a difficult book to read, not because I wasn‘t pulled in but because the realism of the writing. This is a multi-POV fictional accounts of the Haitian earthquake of 2010 and aftermath. Profound, emotional, and book hangover worthy.

bailedI‘ve been struggling with this for a while now, and I think it might be time to call it quits. The topic (2010 earthquake in Haiti) is compelling and the writing is good, I just think novels that are multiple POV/read like interconnected short stories should come with a warning label because 90% of the time they just don‘t work for me. I couldn‘t stay engaged with this one so on to my next adventure. January #bookspin
pickThis novel of the 2010 Haiti earthquake reads a bit as linked short stories, as we see the experience of each character on the day and how they all connect to one another. It‘s phenomenal and devastating. The audio was good, but a full cast would have made it even better. Highly recommend.
pickThis novel follows an interconnected group of Haitians before & after the 2010 earthquake. Each chapter features a different character that is part of a large group centered around matriarch Ma Lou & a local child, Jonas. Most are in Haiti, but some are as far as Boston and Rwanda. Some live, some die, but all of their lives change. It was a deeply moving novel. It would‘ve been nice to have a map of characters‘ relationships at the start, though.
