I won this off of Goodreads and I just feel so over the moon lucky that I did because this author is AMAZING.
I finished this one about a year ago (Maybe some day I'll catch up on all my reviews....)
I just can't express how good of a writer she is. There is never a lull and the story is always moving forward. And the premise of face blindness really makes things interesting. Just nothing bad to say about it.

This is my catnip - a remote setting, people trapped because of weather, and a killer on the loose. I loved the setting and Sten's writing. I found it creepy and the final solution was a surprise. That being said, the details behind the big twists and the whodunnit were my least favorite type of resolution. It left me feeling ill and dirty and was just sad. 3 1/2 stars purely for personal preference - 4 1/2 for the fear factor.

vivastory I thought Lost Village was fantastic, will def be checking this one out 2y
b.elschie OH BOY. this one could have been good, I felt the same way with Lost Village and maybe it was from translation, but it didn't sit right with me and honestly couldn't with the lead. I just...I agree with the feeling dirty part. 2y
DGRachel @vivastory I love Lost Village, so picking this one up was a no-brainer. It is tense and scary - the MC has a disorder where she can't remember faces. Her grandmother is murdered, she sees the murderer, but doesn't have any idea who it is. I just can't say what I didn't like about it without spoilers, but I would still recommend the book. 2y

DGRachel @b.elschie I loved The Lost Village and I didn't hate this one, but yeah...I didn't love the twist/resolution subject matter. 2y
Lizpixie Definitely #stacked! I loved The Lost Village! 2y
Bookzombie I loved The Lost Village too, but had the same feelings about the resolution on this one. I would also still recommend it though. 🙂 2y

I enjoyed this isolated location thriller/mystery in a creepy old house a little more than Sten‘s previously translated work (The Lost Village). Good #scarathlon2022 #teamslaughter fodder!

I‘m joining the multiple bingo boards party again with two lists for #bookspinbingo! This is mostly to keep me honest, I swear 😅
I‘m planning to use the “main” list for the usual #bookspin and #doublespin choices. Thanks as always, @TheAromaofBooks and happy #scarathlon to all players! 🍁🎃🧛🏻‍♀️

Good psychological thriller with some decent twists & turns. Really delivers on the atmosphere with the creepy, isolated house in winter. The intrigue was well done & the overall feel was very haunting, mildly claustrophobic, & edgy. This was my 2nd exposure to the face blindness trope, so the ingenuity was a little lost on me, but will be great for unexposed readers. A gothic feel with a creepy estate vibe, and an excellent, quick-paced read.

Look at me finally finishing the first book in...I don't even know how long 😅

This was a creepy, intriguing and all out unsettling sort of mystery but I didn't quite enjoy it as much as The Lost Village. Great read but didn't quite hit the spot.

I couldn't get in Cloud Cuckoo Land today, so I switched genres and picked up this hopefully haunted house story. I'm grateful for the change.

No rest for the wicked

The great thing about an upcoming long weekend? It's a long weekend.

The bad? Deadlines get pushed ahead and I end up working on my Sunday 😪

Bright side? At least I have an excuse to get some #audiobook hours in

What a ride! Throughout the book I thought I had things mostly figured out and it turns out I was wrong about all of them. I loved the dual timelines and how they came together. I also felt like everything was explained and wrapped up in the end. The author did a great job keeping a little creepiness and creating the setting. Will definitely read more from this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#NetGalley

Camilla Sten does an excellent job yet again of delivering a very atmospheric read focused on a haunted house and a main character who has face blindness. The slow suspenseful buildup of both the past and present storylines come together for a very satisfying conclusion.

bthegood I really enjoyed The Lost Village - so I've stacked this - thanks for the review - 2y

Sten‘s second novel retains some of the eerie atmosphere of her debut, THE LOST VILLAGE, but revolves more around a single, secluded Swedish estate and the secrets buried there. Split into two narrators and two timelines, Eleanor relays the near-present when the unexpected death of her grandmother leads her to discover a property she knew nothing about. In the 1960s, Annushka comes to the property as a servant. Smoothly translated & exciting!

Addison_Reads Great review! I just finished this and enjoyed it. 2y

Eleanor comes face-to-face with her grandma‘s killer, but is unable to identifying them due to her inability to recognize faces. She later finds out that she has inherited her grandma‘s house; a place full of dark secrets. I found this one all over the place. The switch between past and present was hard to follow. The prosopagnosia angle felt gimmicky. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin‘s Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
