Fantastic
Next up.
I could have read this in one sitting if I didn‘t have so many obligations!
👍 Read first. Forgot. Listened the second time.
I waited so long because I didn‘t think this one could be as engaging as we were liars… I was wrong. I was in tears by the end.
I enjoyed reading this book!!! I enjoyed the mystery element and the dual timeline in this book. I loved the characters too!!! I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars. This is the seventeenth book completed for #RushAThon readathon hosted by @Andrew65 and the first book completed for #20in4 readathon
Carrie‘s story is great! Makes you want to hear Bess and Penny! All the secrets this family holds…
As good as the first! If you liked We Were Liars, this is a must-read. As a child of the 80s, I enjoyed the time period. I loved learning of the family dynamics, secrets, and loyalties. This is Carrie's story. Hopefully, the author chooses to write Bess and Penny's story, too.
Ghost haunting someone because they want to watch SNL. 🤣
Rather than the intense, suspenseful premise of it's predecessor, this novel is a good introspective study of this wealthy family & their skewed value system. I found it quite intriguing & enjoyed the character work, though it doesn't pack the same punch. The characters are all unlikable, which is a testament to Lockhart's writing. The vibe is haunting & sad, but also just made me shake my head at the entitlement & ridiculousness of these people.
Loved hearing the moms perspective of their time on the island! This was a great prequel.
Book 165📚 3⭐️
A good sequel to we were liars, although a tad predictable.
Even the parents are liars🤫
Reading by early morning light. 🌅
I really liked We Were Liars and this prequel didn‘t disappoint! I enjoyed the deeper insight into the Sinclair family.
#bookspinbingo - got a bingo with this one!
#Wickedwords The book I‘m reading has a map in the front. That usually means that I am going to have to understand the lay of the land during my reading and it usually makes me nervous cause I don‘t want to think too hard while reading 😂😂

I devoured this just as quickly as the original. The story of the earlier generation of sisters spending their first summer on Beechwood Island since the drowning of their youngest member, it deals with ghosts, regret, grief and trying to find your place in a family.
I am not sure whether it is the writing or the glimpse into this world of privilege, expectation and tradition, but I was hooked. Oh to be the generous hostess Tipper!
Interesting prequel to “We Were Liars.” It definitely shed some light on this family. I‘m excited to discuss it with my teen today. She has already finished and is ready to dissect it! 🥰 #audiobook #Audible
The kind of YA I would have loved as a YA. As an A this was a smidge predictable but ultimately a good rich people problems diversion from real life. I could do worse.
Long weekend reading binge. We were liars blew my mind, so reading this prequel was a given. An idyllic setting that is anything but? The most non YA books, they are about coming of age but so much more
My favourite cocktail is a French 75 or 76 ( depends if it‘s Cava or champagne - really all bubbles are good bubbles ) I am celebrating the official start of summer, last day of school today until September 6th. Here‘s to a normal-ish summer where we all refill our tanks and can bolster our resiliency aka no drama summer
I loved we were liars and I was so excited to see this at the library.
Two books from my tbr with “family” in the title!

I never read YA, but made an exception for the prequel to We Were Liars. It was just the book I needed for escaping normal life at the beach. This is set during the teen years of the parents of the teens in We Were Liars, taking place on the same family island, but this time in 1987. The descriptions of the parties and food — matriarch Tipper‘s incredible hostess abilities — were a huge plus for me! The storyline was a bit out there, but a pick!
We made it to the shore! This book kept me busy during the long car ride down. Now relaxing a bit on the balcony, 18 floors up.
Perfect for a rainy day ☔️ #summerreads #saturdayreads
Got a few pages in during the last soccer practice of the season 😢
BUT, we do have tournaments Friday, so we are looking forward to that! ⚽️ 🥅 🏆
We Were Liars is one of my favorite books, so I obviously had to grab this one! Just picked it up from my library and I can‘t WAIT to start. 🤓
3.5 ⭐
This story follows the Sinclair sisters and their summer on the island. More secrets are revealed. More lies are told. But the Sinclair are good at pretending.
3.75 stars- I didn't like this one as much as We Were Liars. The MCs were mostly unlikable and the supernatural element was weird and unnecessary. It was still a good book but nowhere near as good as the first.
🚤Physical book
🚤I'd give it 4 stars so far, I'm not very far in though.
🚤 I write notes in the Bookly app.
Day 3: finished the fifth book for #MarvelousMay readathon ~ it was so good!!! Presented as a ‘prequel‘ to We Were Liars…which was great, but this one is even better!
@Andrew65
Loved this so much, that I read the whole thing in one night, & I‘m pretty sure it cured my reading-slump (finally!). This was better than the first book, and it answered a lot of questions that the first book left me with. I also find Carrie to be a far more interesting narrator than Cadence was.
Last page of “again, again.” I didn‘t know!! Dropping 5/3/22. I can‘t wait!!
