When a young woman finds herself lost and at a crossroads, one last gift from her brother just might give her another chance at life and at love in this epic holiday romance from the author of Always, in December Sometimes the best gifts in life are the ones you don't expect. Cassie and Tom lost their parents at a young age and relied on each other--as well as a community of friends--to cope. They were especially close with Tom's best friend, Sam, who always made sure that Tom and Cassie were surrounded with love. But, twenty years later, Cassie has lost Tom as well. And in a way, she's also lost Sam; over the years they'd drifted apart, and now the man she always had a crush on is someone she doesn't even recognize anymore. She's never felt more alone. Then Cassie finds an envelope with her name on it, written in Tom's terrible handwriting, and she knows immediately what it is. It's the first clue in the Christmas scavenger hunt that Tom made for her every year; he'd promised her for months that this year's would be the grandest one yet. At first, she's too scared to open the envelope--what if she can't figure out the clues without his help? Or what if she does figure them all out and her last connection to Tom is gone? Tom's present sets Cassie on a heart-wrenching and beautiful journey that will change her life--if she lets it. And as she travels from London to the Welsh mountains to the French countryside, she reconnects with old friends, rekindles a lost love, and, most important, rediscovers herself. But once she's solved the final clue, will she be brave enough to accept the gift her brother has given her--and the love it's led her to?

If you are looking for a cheerful holiday read, this is not the book for you… however, it is a beautiful story about love and loss and how things happen at the right time in life!

This one is SAD!! It takes place over about 8 years. Them as teenagers and then over the course of their early lives. Every year Tom creates a scavenger hunt for Cassie for Christmas. When Tom dies (not a spoiler), she has one last scavenger hunt to do. There is also a lot of relationship drama. I really enjoy Emily Stone‘s books.

Why do I feel like this is going to be a tear jerker! Ah, so excited to dig in though ☃️❤️🎄

TLuvs This is the sibling version of P.S.I Love You by Ahern. But it's going strong and written well. 2y

This is Stone‘s second novel (following Always, in December) and another hanky-alert story as well.
I won‘t go into much detail here because I don‘t want to spoil things, but it spotlights Tom and Cassie (a brother and sister who lost both parents as young children) and Sam, Tom‘s best friend. It‘s a love story...of siblings, close friends and the romantic variety and involves all of the angst, frustrations, and joy inherent in those 🔻

robinb relationships. I did enjoy this one, but maybe not quite as much as her debut. A turn in both Tom‘s character (toward the end of the book) and Sam‘s (around 20% into the book) left me with a bit of 180-degree whiplash and quite frankly a bit of disbelief. Everything I had thought and pieced together about both Tom‘s and Sam‘s nature was called into question, although it was later to be resolved/explained. 🔻 (edited) 2y
robinb And even though I realize now that those things needed to happen to Tom and Sam for the advancement of the story, it still managed to leave a little sourness behind for me. There are some issues (childhood abandonment, learning to trust oneself and others, etc. as well as bravery in tackling those things that scare us) that are well done and heart wrenching at times. The relationship between Cassie and Tom 🔻 (edited) 2y
robinb made the book for me, and the yearly Christmas treasure hunt was the cherry on top. The writing was beautiful, the secondary characters (especially Hazel, Cassie‘s best friend and Linda, a supportive maternal figure) who were stellar and added much to the lives of Tom and Cassie. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to more from the gifted Stone. 4.5/5⭐️ #coverlove (The cover goes so well with the book). 😊 (edited) 2y
