Angel Maker
Angel Maker | Alex North
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Whisper Man and The Shadows comes a dark, suspenseful new thriller about the mysteries of fate, the unbreakable bond of siblings, and a notorious serial killer who was said to know the future. Growing up in a beautiful house in the English countryside, Katie Shaw lived a charmed life. At the cusp of graduation, she had big dreams, a devoted boyfriend, and a little brother she protected fiercely. Until the day a violent stranger changed the fate of her family forever. Years later, still unable to live down the guilt surrounding what happened to her brother, Chris, and now with a child of her own to protect, Katie struggles to separate the real threats from the imagined. Then she gets the phone call: Chris has gone missing and needs his big sister once more. Meanwhile, Detective Laurence Page is facing a particularly gruesome crime. A distinguished professor of fate and free will has been brutally murdered just hours after firing his staff. All the leads point back to two old cases: the gruesome attack on teenager Christopher Shaw, and the despicable crimes of a notorious serial killer who, legend had it, could see the future.

Here's my book haul from today! 📚 I actually planned on stopping at two other bookstores as well, but I spent HOURS in Barnes & Noble so I figured I might as well save the other bookstores for a different day! 🤭 I'm really excited that the Barnes & Noble special edition of Intermezzo is a different color from the regular edition! That's super fun!

I‘m sad this book has gotten so many bad reviews. I liked it. It was different and I liked how things all fit together in the end even though it didn‘t always make sense while reading it. It wasn‘t the best flowing story and left a lot open to interpretation but to me it was unique and still enjoyable without being perfect.

Itchyfeetreader Love to hear a different perspective thank you. A reminder that there are few bad books just books that are not for us at all particular moment 6mo
Bec_lectic @Itchyfeetreader totally agree with books that are not meant for certain times! I almost didn‘t like this book but once all the puzzle pieces started coming together I thought it was quite clever. 6mo

My current read is:?️??

My next read is either going to be "shit, actually" or heir of fire.

I strongly recommend Tess gerritsen, Kathy Reichs, and, now, Alex North.

“The blood splatters from where he had been stabbed repeatedly. And the larger pool of blood, in the gutter, where Michael Hyde had begun his desperate attempt to cut off her brother‘s face.”

Well, Mr. North, I dare say you caught my attention with the last lines of the prologue. 🩸💀🩸

I had a little trouble following some of the details with this one (North did some interesting/funny things with time), but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Oh, this is a creepy good story about some sort of connection of a long dead serial killer to a current day disparate cast of characters and clues keep dropping to each of the them. But it is only you, Dear Reader, that is fed all the clues to know just what danger lurks ahead. And it didn‘t matter how fast I read - those clues would not congeal until the story‘s end!

cherryluvr I have been wanting to read some more mystery, definitely will add to my list 👏 1y

I was SO STOKED to receive Alex North's newest book as an ARC from Celadon Books. 👏🏻 Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. This is the story of a man who, through death, brings together a web of characters, events, and crimes. One might say it was all written in stone. But what do YOU believe? Come for the gruesome details, stay for the heartbreaking reveals. 🩷

Always love an Alex North read. There's always an element of fantasy, in my opinion, but still as creepy as some of his others. Lots of twists and turns learning about how the characters were all connected, and I definitely appreciated the ending.

This is a tough one for me to review. On one hand I feel like the plot was very unique which I appreciate. On the other hand I was confused through much of the book and still am after reading it. A lot of characters and timelines and storylines along with a complicated premise made this not super enjoyable for me. ⭐️⭐️

I loved Alex North's last 2 books. And this one just fell apart for me. I was uninterested and sooo confused. There are so many characters. And it's following some theory dealing with philosophy. I just honestly didn't care. Really was a pity. Also since there was so many characters that when you found something out from one person's point of view, you'd have to read about the other povs discovering that same thing. Very annoying. 2/5

I loved this book as I have loved all of Alex North‘s books. Can all of time exist all at once? For this novel, apparently it can. Two bothers who are influenced by a truly evil father: one who obeys the rules, one who does not. One who believes he is the true heir, one who does not. But, all is not as it seems. The ending caught me off guard. Scary, but not freezer worthy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The next Stillhouse Lake novel is not available in audiobook form so I have to read it on the kindle app. So I‘ll listen to this one as I read ‘Trapper Road‘ on kindle. “From the New York Times bestselling author of The Whisper Man and The Shadows comes a dark, suspenseful new thriller about the mysteries of fate, the unbreakable bond of siblings, and a notorious serial killer who was said to know the future.”

deeannloso I‘m going to bail on this for now. It‘s a bit too all over the place for me. I‘ll come back to it later. 2y

The third Alex North novel doesn‘t disappoint! Ever since devouring THE WHISPER MAN (letter openings in doors will forever haunt me now), I feel like I‘m always anxiously awaiting more from this talented author! I couldn‘t put down this fast-paced and almost cyclical thriller that spans decades. Plus I can‘t wait to find a spot for my pins from the publisher for pre-ordering a copy! I saw some twists coming but overall really enjoyed this!

While I enjoyed The Angel Maker, it didn‘t live up to the expectations I had based on North‘s prior two novels. The basic story was intriguing and twisted, but it didn‘t have me on the edge of my seat. I also expected a little more about the actual Angel Maker. Craig does a fabulous job narrating. Her tone, speed and inflection were spot on and she did a great job building suspense at just the right moments.

I was very excited for this thriller by Alex North yet I caution the reader that the plot line jumps around A LOT. With the time shifts, numerous characters and view points it took me time to wrap my head around where I was in the plot and distracted me from enjoying the great thriller this could have been.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thank Netgalley and Celdaon Books for giving me an advanced copy in return for my honest review.

The Angel Maker has several twists and turns, which makes it very difficult to follow on audiobook if your attention drifts. My attention drifted A LOT.

Although I liked Alex North's previous two novels (The Whisper Man and The Shadows) better than his newest novel, The Angel Maker, I did enjoy this book. Overall I really enjoyed this book. Included in the narrative was a bit of true crime, a bit about the mysteries of fate and pondering about if our future is really set in stone.

EadieB I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot was one that kept me reading until the satisfying ending. The characters were unique and very believable. I had read Alex North's other two books and was excited to receive an ARC in the mail for The Angel Maker. It lived up to be everything expected and then some. If you like paranormal books then you would love this book. Pick it up to read and see what you think. Not published until February 2023. 2y
