pickI absolutely adored this story! Three generations of Indian women supporting each other and finding themselves through life's conflicts. They struggle with self image, misogyny in the workplace, breaking down patriarchal marriage roles, and dating in a new technological world. Each woman brings their own unique perspective to each problem. Their love and support for each other was inspiring 💗

I finished THE VIBRANT YEARS over breakfast! It was great, and I‘d definitely class it as general fiction with a romantic component rather than romance. The main focus is the love and support that exists between a daughter, mother, and grandmother as they all figure out where they want to steer their lives next.
I took a break on my bike ride to do the book & breakfast thing with Sonali Dev‘s latest. I really hope I can find more time with it this afternoon; it‘s great so far! I do wonder at how the library‘s catalogued it as Romance, though. Dev‘s previous books definitely fit the genre, but I‘m about 1/3 into this one and it feels pretty firmly in the General Fiction camp. Not a viable love interest in sight.

This is a lovely story about 3 generations of women coming into their own.
Bindu has something from her past that she has buried.
Aly is Bindu's daughter in law and is facing discrimination at work and separation from her husband.
Cullie is the youngest obsessed with work and searching for love.
Together, they are a powerful and inspiring force
pickI re-read this for book club & it‘s a lovely book. Marriages, life dreams, sex, and everything related to a woman‘s life rolled into one beautiful story.

pickThis book is incredible! I could not put it down. Bhindi is loveable as we look @ her past and present. In her 60s she is letting herself become all that she is. A great romance, a great woman growing book, but most of all a book about loving women and ourselves for all that we are.
My youngest has a teacher workday today, so I‘m under cozy blankets, turning out one more #retro project for #litsycrafters while listening to this audiobook!
pickThis is a story of 3 generations of women as they face various challenges - death, career plateaus, dating, anxiety, etc. They learn to find their footing in a world dominated by men and how to stand up against the expectations to fill a certain role as women, more specifically as Indian/Indian-American women. I enjoyed their journey and how they supported each other. Bindu was definitely my favorite!
“You and Cullie have that too. You know that, right?” Suddenly Binji‘s eyes were burning with something Cullie had never seen there before. Her gaze moved from Cullie to Mom. “Love for what you do. Work that feels as essential as breathing, that lets you dig into yourself, makes you feel alive. Hold on to it. Everyone doesn‘t have that.”

This is a feel-good multigenerational story of three Indian American women, their respective journeys to find themselves, and their love and support of each other. Bindu, the grandmother, particularly shines! I liked it, but thought it was a bit over the top and all over the place at times.
pickI loved this story. The way Oscar‘s journal entries entertained with present day happenings in Bindu, Aly, & Cullie‘s lives. And their love & three generation relationship is beautiful. This story made me laugh, made me cry, made me frustrated about life…and it was beautiful. Highly recommend.
