This is a slow pick I may have enjoyed more had I went in without previewing the story. I was expecting more Cold War intrigue, but the vast majority of this story was in have and have-not intertwining lives of 2 island families at at a beach estate. In that way it was consistent with BW books, but it teased intrigue that is not played out in the pages and only explained in the last chapter. Odd storytelling.

TheBookgeekFrau This was not a favorite BW for me. I was especially disappointed having read Our Woman in Moscow right before which was all about the intrigue. 8mo
marleed I often just dive into a Bw book without reading anything about the book (which kind of accounts for how often I read her series out of sequence!), and I wish I had this time so I didn‘t have to get to the last chapter where she told me of the intrigue. Had I read it as simply wealthy estate beach drama I may have liked it more. 8mo

Not very often. It depends on the person. I just recently gifted the tagged book to a friend who is hard to buy for. I know she‘ll enjoy it. I‘m looking forward to reading it.

This is an interesting summer read- Olive fascinated me- with her utter lack of morality as discovered late in the novel- Emilia utterly admires her & gets caught up in her world. The FBI agent Sumner Fox asks Emilia to spy on Olive & she is shattered when she discovers evidence that Olive is a Soviet spy. “Forbidden” romance is interspersed throughout.

AmyG What a lovely library! 9mo
kspenmoll I know, we are spoilt in this town, but we do support what the library needs. There is a coffee (25 cents) & snack bar too. In the heat a wonderful place to chill, literally. 9mo

I finished this on the porch, enjoying the sunny not too hot day, but forgot to take a picture. Now it's raining, so it's an indoor picture with cat.

I liked this one. It's pretty typical Beatriz Williams. Two timelines set only 7 years apart, in the years following WWII.

23 #51 This book was maddening. It was too good to stop reading but not good enough to continue. I literally put it down twice deciding not to continue only to return later. A good story that could have been told better. Too many details about things that were not pertinent to the story and also didn‘t help with character development. And not enough details early enough about the things that did. Glad I finished but can‘t really recommend.

I was rather disappointed. Usually I can't put a Beatriz Williams novel down, but this one had quite a few parts that had me not really caring to pick it up. It felt like two different stories forced together as one 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only reason it isn't an out right pan is because the parts that were good were *that* good.

So glad I finally got around to reading *Our Woman in Moscow* a couple of months ago since Mr. Sumner Fox is back.

Just a mini book haul bc the prices 🫨😱
And not for nothin' but the damn Barnes and Noble that is only a mile from my house seems to delight in selling damaged goods; three years and I have yet to get a pristine new release 🤬 I get books from the library book sale in better shape! But auto-buy authors 🤷🏻‍♀️😬

I loved this one enough that I'm going to buy a published copy instead of just keeping the ARC. This had so many twists and turns and this author has a true talent for pulling you into the story and time period. Spy craft and romance and dealing with life choices. All that and more here! #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
