In this intimate, sexy novel, two lesbian couples living next door to each other one summer in cottage country find each of their relationships at a crossroads. One woman celebrates her fiftieth birthday, which causes her to reconsider what she wants out of life and her partner; the other couple are the parents of a new baby, which cannot conceal the turmoil of their relationship. "Weekend "is a plaintive, moving exploration of the true nature of love?about trust, negotiation, and what's worth keeping in the end.Jane Eaton Hamilton is the author of eight previous books.

Oof. You know when a book is too real? This novel is a snapshot of 2 queer couples spending the weekend in side by side cabins in rural Ontario. It's highly character and relationship driven, with a lot of authentic dyke processing, gender feels, very authentic (kinky) sex, and interrogation of disability. It took me a while to get the characters but after about half way through I was invested. Very thought-provoking! But also kinda depressing?

Cinfhen I‘m still lured by that daring cover😉 6y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Cinfhen I know, I love the cover! 6y

Omg, the dyke processing in this book is painfully authentic. #QueerBooks

Ajax is from Vancouver, visiting a lover in Toronto:

"Lake Ontario, Ajax keeping her lips pressed tight about the lake's basic wrongness (pretending it was an ocean)"

I feel so seen, this is exactly how I felt about the lakes in southern Ontario when I loved there!!

Also, don't you love how this cover is a geographic image but also a human body?

Picked up two very different books from the thrift store at in my hometown yesterday. I've heard great things about Lisa Kleypas but I don't know if this one is a good one to start with or not! Any suggestions for favourite Lisa Kleypas book?
The other is by a queer Vancouver author that I've had on my TBR for a while, so I was happy to find it used! #Romantsy

onthevalentine “Love in the Afternoon” is actually part of a series of hers that focuses on the Hathaway family. The first one is called “Mine Until Midnight”, and it‘s really charming! There is a Roma man as the romantic interest, but it‘s not stereotypical at all. Unfortunately it‘s the only one in the series I have read. (edited) 7y

📚 Probably the Sookie Stackhouse series
📚 The Morganville Vampire series. It wasn‘t bad, I think I just outgrew it.
📚 It depends on the book. Most books I pass on, either to my mother or donate to the library. Some books I decide to keep.
📚 I don‘t but I‘d really like to!!

Longest, besides juvenile ones, Faye Kellerman‘s Decker/Lazarus
Gave up on Patricia Cornwall‘s Scarpetta series awhile back. I loved the early ones, hated the middle ones, gave up in the late teens
Depends on rereadability
Not right now and I miss it

I am going away for the weekend. Thought I was done packing, but I've been informed that I cannot, in fact, ONLY pack books, colouring books and my ereader. Apparently I need to pack clothes, shoes and underwear too 🤷🏽‍♀️
Oh well, at least the hard part (choosing which books to take) is over ☺😋

Happy weekend, Littens. Hoping it's filled with lots of cozy reading time. ☺️

Bookartbookmarks Sometimes I feel like I should go out and "live" life the way my peers are. I often feel guilty I'm not taking advantage of my youth. But, reading and staying in makes me happy. It makes me less anxious and lets me be who I really want to be 8y
Notafraidofwords @Babiesandbooks all that matters is how you feel. You're not hurting anyone by doing what you enjoy 😊 8y
Kimzey Love the image! I so wish I could stay home and read books this weekend. 🤓😺📚. 8y

Alisnazzy @Babiesandbooks I feel the same way. I have a lot of anxiety, panic, and depression issues and chronic fatigue syndrome and with all that combined it takes so much out of me physically, emotionally, and mentally, that just staying in bed when I can and reading or watching something I like can help avoid some of those triggers that cause me discomfort. 8y
Cspen113 Happy weekend!! Wishing you lots of good reading!! 📚📚 8y
