Meet Garvie Smith. Highest IQ ever recorded at Marsh Academy. Lowest ever grades. What's the point? Life sucks. Nothing surprising ever happens. Until Chloe Dow's body is pulled from a pond. Garvie's ex-girlfriend. Inspector Singh is already on the case. Ambitious, uptight, methodical, he's determined to solve the mystery--and get promoted. He doesn't need any "assistance" from a notorious slacker. Or does he? Smart, stylish, and packed with twists and turns from start to finish, Running Girl introduces an unforgettable new character to the world of crime fiction--so lazy he'd only get out of bed for murder.

Garvie is a charming genius, the smartest in his school, but snarky and lazy with boredom.Chloe, the most beautiful but self-obsessed girl at school goes missing and is found dead- and Garvie finally has a challenge to solve. DI Singh, methodical and unpopular, is handed his first murder case. The relationship between Garvie and Singh is fraught- intuitive reasoning vs by the book but develops quite nicely. Garvie realizes he can‘t treat ..

Tonton …everything as a game or people as pawns to move about. Intriguing YA worth reading🌟 2y

When I started this book i had mixed opinions, however it was amazing! I loved the mystery it was well thought out and a light read. It took a while to get into but once I did it was gripping. I loved how the mystery had many points where you thought it was solved and it wasn‘t and it kept you on the edge of your seat. Garvie related to many teenage boys who wasn‘t keen on school, but showed how he turned his life around.

That is Condado near to Old San Juan!

gibblr Do you live here or are you just visiting? 7y
Gissy I born and raised near to San Juan but now I live in Guayabo which is pretty close like 20 minutes approximately depend on the traffic. That is our running route at least three days of the week. Right now there are a lot of runners on Saturday. They are training for Chicago and NY marathons. 7y

I wanted to take a moments and toot my horn. I left Facebook and all other social media in December after a life changing event. Since then I only social media this site, run 🏃🏻 at least 4 days a week, and have lost just shy of 40lbs. It has been a great start to 2017. I love it here. No major political issues and no one constantly airing dirty laundry. 😍❤️❤️💋💋

1st of 2017! A slow-boiling mystery with a deliciously teen sleuth. As is usually the case with me & mysteries, I didn't love the slow pacing, the gradual coming together of clues, as much as a traditional mystery fan might. Plus, the whodunnit was not unpredictable — though the how was pretty cool. Still, the writing was great, with depth and insight, presenting characters of humor & resolve that kept pulling me in, despite myself. ★★★☆☆

"He thought about complex numbers. They were interesting, the way they didn't add up. Like a very noticeable girl going missing without anyone noticing. Like her body turning up in a place at a time when she would never have willingly gone there."

Running girl was a book I randomly selected but thoroughly enjoyed. I'm not hugely into crime or mystery books, but this just had me hooked and I couldn't put it down. I loved Garvie Smith as a character and the way he was such a realistic person. The plot was great too. Just when you thought you had it all figured out one more unexpected twist would manage to show up & surprise you.

but I've got to say I was always a bit suspicious of the dad...

What happens when you're an underachieving teen genius whose ex-girlfriend is found murdered? You find her murderer, no matter the cost to your grades or family life. A thrilling, dramatic & sometimes funny teen mystery that happened across my desk at the library & insisted on coming home with me. It's the 1st book I've read from the fall publishing season & it has primed me for more fantastic reads.

Took this as a comparison photo to @Carol 's photo from yesterday... May I introduce you to the cover Australia got? ❤️

And maybe a little to entice @emilydecato as well!

[DELETED] 1409720085 I'M ENTICED. This cover is so different from the other but I love it! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @emilydecato, it's got a strong noir vibe... 8y

Hooked_on_books I wonder why such different covers for different countries? What kind of psychology is going into this process? 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Hooked_on_books, not sure, it's quiet common tho! 8y
Carol Ah yes, I thought it was just the UK but it makes sense you'd have similar in AUS. @emilydecato I'm officially halfway through the book. I'm tearing through it like crazy. While I agree with @thegirlwiththelibrarybag that the MC is hard to like (at least I think that's who mentioned that yesterday?) it's a pretty rad mystery and the pages are just flying by! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Oh yes! That was me! I think he transitions into sort of likeable, eventually :) @Carol 8y
Carol I keep thinking of him as a young Sherlock Holmes ala Cumberbatch and that makes it better 😁 8y

🎉Did you hear that? It's the sound of fall publishing officially beginning! First up is this YA mystery that hit my radar while cataloging. The blurb makes it sound like a cross between All the Wrong Questions and a Trouble is a Friend of mine with perhaps some A Study in Charlotte thrown in? Sometimes I think I should read more adult books, and sometimes I tell my brain to shut up and read 😁

Dorianna You had me at "some of A Study in Charlotte thrown in." 8y
[DELETED] 1409720085 I read three books for "adults" this summer and I hated them all. I'm sticking YA, thank you very much. 8y

BookishFeminist I heard it screeching to a grinding halt outside my apartment earlier today. I knew fall publishing was upon us 😂 8y
Zelma @Carol cataloging yah! 👍 I have floated around in various positions due to moving too often and pursuing any opening, but this is my passion. 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag This book keeps getting new covers! It's amazing (but I'd like the next one already) 8y
Carol @Dorianna based on the description I'm betting our MC will be similar to Charlotte Holmes, but I could just be dreaming 😍 8y
Carol @Laalaleighh I'm a cataloger in a public library. Give me a book, I'll code access points in the database so you can find it! AKA the best job ever 😁 8y

Carol @emilydecato @elkeo I know, right? 😍 8y
Carol @brendanmleonard @thegirlwiththelibrarybag this cover is 💯 and knowing it's an import is going to drive me crazy, knowing I'll be waiting a couple of years after the UK has the next installment 😂 8y
Carol @BookishFeminist lol! Right? I know I say this every year but this is looking to be the best fall publishing season yet! 8y
[DELETED] 1409720085 So should I hold off on reading this because the sequel won't be out for a million years and WHAT WILL MY LIFE BE WHILE I WAIT??? I need to know. @Carol @thegirlwiththelibrarybag 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Carol, it came out early 2014 and no updates on GR about a sequel (I read it awhile back now so details are a bit hazy - but I gave it 4 stars) it took me awhile to warm up to Garvie. Enjoy! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @emilydecato, I read it in October 2014 and my life has not been negatively impacted by the lack of sequel (i think the ending was decent and not overly cliffhanger-y but 🤔 I'm not 100%) 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Carol, what is LCGFT?! Exciting library jargon that I don't know ☺️ 8y
[DELETED] 1409720085 Excellent. Sounds like I can read it whenever and be okay. Thank you. @thegirlwiththelibrarybag 8y
