Busy: How to Thrive in a World of Too Much | Tony Crabbe
12 posts | 3 read | 1 reading
A Success Best Book of 2015 Business psychologist Tony Crabbe outlines a unique three-step approach to combating one of the modern life's great problems: being too busy. BUSY is divided into four digestible sections-Mastery, Differentiation, and Engagement-that will teach readers how to switch from managing time to managing attention, how to transition toward a career strategy that doesn't hinge on productivity, how to think differently about success by re-engaging with what matters, and how to create the impetus, energy, and clarity to put all these changes into effect. Crabbe draws on entertaining psychological studies to show why we're getting it wrong at the moment and to develop a fresh new approach to taking back one's life from chaotic outside forces. Rarely has a book been more timely in both its scope and in its immediate impact.

Littens, I have been going crazy lately. I've started working out in the morning again, which is good, but I'm so tired when I get home from work and my crazy commute that I fall asleep as soon as I open a book at night! To group T for #lmpbc @aschermetz @whippoorwill815 @the-flashley I honestly don't know if I'm caught up it a month behind 😂. I hope I will finish this one this weekend and send it out Monday.

I miss reading! 😫

the-flashley @callielafleur don‘t worry about it! I know I‘m definitely behind. I‘m totally fine with just reading them as we can and not forcing ourselves to stick to the one-book-a-month schedule. I‘d rather we all just enjoy the books we‘re reading! 😊 6y
aschermetz @the-flashley @callielafleur @whippoorwill815 THIS! I‘m in no rush at all. Everyone take your time and enjoy the books! 6y
Bookish_AF No worries group members! I‘m actually currently reading House of Leaves which is in a realm of its own and takes a lot of my reading time 😂 Just send them when you can! I know we would all rather read than do real life and we don‘t always get that luxury! 😜 @aschermetz @callielafleur @the-flashley 6y
the-flashley @whippoorwill815 so true! Good luck with House of Leaves! I started it last year and still haven‘t finished it.😅 It is definitely unlike any other book I‘ve ever read. 6y

Here is a question for the Litsy community. I love to read, I really do. That being said I am the IT Director for a company which means 50+ hour weeks most of the time, and stress is no stranger either. I also have the annoying condition of falling asleep if I try to read after 7pm. How do you other busy Littens fit reading into you busy lives?

DGRachel Audiobooks and reading at lunch are the two ways I squeeze in as much book time as I can when I‘m busy/stressed. 7y
TheWhiteHatter Thanks @DGRachel , I think I need to make myself take a lunch break. Usually I just work right throught it 7y
Seekingtardis Audio books and always having a book on my phone. Because you know you always have your phone!! 7y

Captivatedbybooks During my commute and weekends but if im going to have a busy weekend i try and wake up an hour early to get some reading in and while im cooking. 7y
DGRachel @TheWhiteHatter Yes! Make yourself take a lunch break. I used to work through mine, too, but your brain needs the break from work. Sometimes I just sit at my desk and pull out my book, but if people come by and bug me, I‘ll leave - even if I just sit in my car and read. It will help with your stress levels. #VoiceOfExperience 7y
Notafraidofwords I take a lunch break and I read before bed even if I do fall asleep. 7y
That-Bookish-Hiker I read on my commute and on my lunch break. I tend to fall asleep early too so it‘s hard for me to read durning the week on the evenings but I try to carve out some time on the weekends for reading. 7y
megt I get most of my reading done during my commute and my lunch break. Lunch break reading can sometimes make me feel guilty because a lot of my coworkers work through lunch. But we ARE entitled to the break and getting that little bit of “me” time helps me focus for the rest of the workday. 7y
GypsyKat @DGRachel @Notafraidofwords @That-Bookish-Hiker I‘m adding another vote to taking a lunch break! 👍 7y
CouronneDhiver During my commute, lunch, bath time and just before bed. 7y
Eggs I agree with lunch/brain break; once you start doing it you'll notice a positive change and get in some reading. But I had to escape to my car, or they would find me 7y
emilyhaldi My favorite time to read is early morning with a cup of coffee, and on the morning commute. While my mind is still fresh! 7y
Allkat Walking for an hour in the morning before work. Raining hard this morning.😒 music or book with a walk! 7y

This pile.

I‘ve had very little time for books this week; I started listening to Al Franken‘s book days before the allegations came out against him. I‘m tired and I‘m disappointed.

Anyway, 2018 intentions include disappearing a few of these from my TBR.

Billypar Paradise is the perfect antidote for the near constant parade of disappointment and disgust concerning the behavior of male public figures. Not because it doesn't have some problematic male public figures of its own but it highlights some gender differences in leadership styles and relationships...among many other things. One of my all-time favorites ☺ 7y
dariazeoli @Billypar I‘m excited to read it! It was an unplanned pick when I stopped at the Little Free Library a couple weeks ago 😊 7y

Sadly, it‘s been a few weeks since I‘ve actually been able to read because life has been too busy. I‘m in withdrawal!! It‘s a good thing I love my new house and the cozy eat in kitchen with fireplace. Getting some grad work done this morning so I could keep working on my house this afternoon!

conniesboekkies Boek is vermakelijk, veel herkenbare situaties en bij veel tips denk je.".hmm dat weet ik wel" maar de uitvoer ontbreekt...had meer van verwacht maar goed "onthaasten" blijft dingetje 8y
