The Forgotten Garden | Kate Morton

RECOMMENDATIONS NEEDED- I find Kate Morton‘s books to be utterly enchanting and fascinating. Im searching for other books and authors that would give me that same feeling. Thanks in advance!

bookaholic1 Have you read Cathy Lamb books?? She's one of my favorites 2y
Ssmith @bookaholic1 nope, never heard of her! I‘ll look into that. Thanks! 2y
Jess861 I really enjoy Kate Morton as well - and while maybe not exactly the same I've found that I've really enjoyed the works of Lori Lansens and Kate Quinn. I've also recently found Louise Erdrich and Taylor Jenkins Reid. 2y
Ssmith @Jess861 thanks! Yes, love Taylor Jenkins Reid. I‘ve read one of Kate Quinn‘s, but not the other two. I‘ll check them out. Thank you! 2y

I started this one a few months ago on audio book but couldn‘t finish it in time before it was returned to the library. I HATE not finishing books once I get started, so I‘m so glad it was finally checked out to me again.

I have never been as tired or stressed as I am these days, and reading has never felt quite as laborious as it has seemed recently. The shame of it is, is that I love reading more than anything else, and I just can‘t seem to ever feel relaxed enough to read anymore. Well I had a long car ride today and started this audiobook, and I love it. Nothing like a story about a book lover to bring a book lover back into business!

rmaclean4 I have found reading the last few weeks difficult also! 6y
JennyM Hang in there 😘 6y
charl08 Me too. I am reading more slowly, reading shorter books. Glad you found something that worked. 6y

Birdsong28 I went through that this summer as I changed jobs and it was just too stressful so like yourself I couldn't relax to much reading other than my bedtime reading. I have now since changed jobs for a much better job and I now feel more comfortable and relaxed to read and I am now getting through more books than just my bedtime reading. Sending you lots of love and support 😘❤️📚📖 6y
Birdsong28 Also this book is great 😀📚📖 6y
Nute I‘ve been there, and I think that the best thing that I did was to allow myself to be OKAY with not reading and patiently wait for the situation to rectify without pressure, confusion or forced efforts to correct. I actually enjoyed binging on Netflix with gusto!😆 Hang in there, it will resolve itself in due time, and know that you have fellow readers who understand.🙂 6y

It has been months since I‘ve been able to sit down and enjoy a book. I decided to force it, despite being exhausted from my first week back at teaching and doing grad school work all day. I‘m glad I did. Enjoying this so far, even if some of the dialogue seems a little forced.

Her Every Fear: A Novel | Peter Swanson
Pickpick

I love audiobooks. I listen to them when I am too busy to sit down and read- on the way to work and back, at the gym, and before I go to sleep. The problem with audiobooks is that you have to find the perfect marriage between story and storyteller for your preferences. I thoroughly enjoyed both, and although there were some predictable plot points, I was engaged enough to be terrified when my husband walked into the room last night!

Andrew65 I agree totally, I use audiobooks for commuting , travelling and when too tired to physically read. Some books are wonderful as audiobooks and some just do not work for me at all, and usually that is down to the narrator. (edited) 7y
DebBates101 I liked that one too! And totally agree w/ u about the narrator issue. 7y

Book lovers dilemma: get another coffee and keep reading at the store, buy it and read at home, or get it from the library (where there is always a wait!!)?

Reviewsbylola Get another coffee and then buy it. 😄 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Hmmmm. Get another coffee, check out how long the wait at the library is, and then decide 7y
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage Yes to coffee! Then finish the book there. 😆 (edited) 7y
TEArificbooks I am reading it now, half way through, it is worth buying if the wait is long at your library. My library has a 7 month wait and this is so good and is consider the thriller every one will be talking about this year like "the girl on the train" and "gone girl" was their years 7y

A page turner, to be sure, but there is one big question I am left with, that I don‘t think was fully explained. I tried going back and rereading to see if there was something I missed, but I can‘t figure out what happened to Ella/Lanie when she was first ‘abducted.‘ Did her Mom sell her to Tom? Why did the mom say she thought he‘d bring her back? It wasn‘t fully explained. Any insights appreciated

ferskner I got the impression that her mom used her as a prostitute, without thinking that she'd be kidnapped. The mom said that she'd wanted Ella to "earn her keep". But I don't know that it was explicit, or how much work the mom put into finding her. It seems like there would be a go between? I thought there were some big holes in the ending. 7y
