Face on the Milk Carton
Face on the Milk Carton | Caroline B Cooney
No one ever really paid close attention to the faces of the missing children on the milk cartons. But as Janie Johnson glanced at the face of the ordinary little girl with her hair in tight pigtails, wearing a dress with a narrow white collar--a three-year-old who had been kidnapped twelve years before from a shopping mall in New Jersey--she felt overcome with shock. She recognized that little girl--it was she. How could it possibly be true?Janie can't believe that her loving parents kidnapped her, but as she begins to piece things together, nothing makes sense. Something is terribly wrong. Are Mr. and Mrs. Johnson really Janie's parents? And if not, who is Janie Johnson, and what really happened?

I felt like I was going in circles with this book. The main character was getting on my nerves. I rated this book a 2 out of 5 stars.

I remember very vividly seeing this book at the Scholastic Book Fair and NEEDING it. I guess my brain has always been wired for spookiness. THEN, the movie starring 90s TV royalty Kellie Martin came out when I was a high school freshman and everyone was obsessed with it. 😂 This newer cover (I think the figure looks like she‘s screaming) sure amps up the creepiness. #scarathlondailyprompts #scream #teamslaughter

MoonWitch94 Omg this new cover is TERRIFYING 😱 2y
MoonWitch94 Also….I just recently found out there were more books to this series than I knew of as a kid! 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this audiobook!! This is the story of a 15 year old girl who sees her face on a milk carton saying she was kidnapped when she was 3.5 years old. The book follows her through her struggle to decide how to handle this information. She loves her “parents”. Does she remain quiet to protect them or say something and turn everyone‘s lives upside down. Excited to read the rest of the series.

Throwback Thursday! This is a read that has always stuck with me.
15 year old Janie sees her face on the milk carton one day and begins to think that the people she knows as her parents may have kidnapped her.

Bookstagrammer Mollie Reads joins me on my podcast this week to discuss the book that haunted many a ‘90s kid‘s dreams — The Face on the Milk Carton. In this episode, we gossip about pushy boyfriend Reeve, compare notes on how the author portrays trauma on the page, and ponder the essential question... what if your parents were ACTUALLY kidnappers? click the link in my bio to listen! 🎧

Pretty good book. I remember reading and loving this one back in elementary school and decided to give it another try. It's just the right amount of action and emotion to keep even an adult reader interested

First in the #SixBy6/6

@Samplergal put up a challenge to finish 6 books by end of day June 6th. Challenge accepted. I'll read the first 4 in the Janie series (Face on the Milk Carton, Whatever Happened to Janie, Voice on the Radio and What Janie Found), an ARC copy of Dark Oblivion by GK deRosa and finally #GhostVirus from #NetGalley.

There is a milk carton on the cover of this book that I read long ago; that fits for #bookanddrink I think.

callielafleur For some reason, I loved the third book in this series, The Voice on the Radio, and read it over and over when I was a kid. 7y
Kaylamburson I absolutely loved this book! I had a big Caroline B. Cooney phase in middle school. One of my favorite authors at the time! @mindea @WarpedSweetness @tricours @callielafleur. I never read The Voice in the Radio, though. I'm sure I would have loved it. (edited) 7y
WarpedSweetness @callielafleur I know I read The Voice on the Radio, but for the life of me I cannot remember it. @Kaylamburson I loved this book also. I think I read it around middle school aged also. 7y

MoniqueReads305 This was my favorite book when I was younger. I think it was one of the first ones to make me cry. I need to reread this. 7y
WarpedSweetness @Ash.on.the.line I hope you got a good grade on the book report! My very first book report was on Pride and Prejudice...and I got a bad grade on it because the teacher said I was too young to appreciate how great the book was. 😑 7y
WarpedSweetness @MoniqueReads305 It was a good book. I vaguely remember there was a movie too. 7y
MoniqueReads305 @WarpedSweetness I never saw the movie but I remember I read it when I saw going through a "kidnapped kids" phase. 7y
WarpedSweetness @MoniqueReads305 I don't think I saw the movie either, hit I honestly cannot remember. I read it because the librarian at my middle school had recommended it to me. I'm glad I did. I know I read the others but I can't remember them. Did you read those? 7y

I was pretty underwhelmed by this, even though I never had high expectations. I felt like the mystery was too obvious, though that could be because I'm really used to reading more complicated mysteries. It was an okay read, but really not that special ~ 3 stars

Though Janie drove me nuts at times, this is an interesting story about a young girl who sees her own face on a milk carton -- she was kidnapped and had no idea. I read this a long time ago, but I must have liked it because I read the whole series! Fun mystery series for kids. 4/5 stars

Finished The Face on the Milk Carton and it was a so-so book for me. I thought the suspense was good but I found I craved more from the storyline. Everyone can also enjoy the lovely combo pic of myself and two book besties. Last seen roaming the aisles of a bookstore, if found approach cautiously with a book in hand!!

While the story idea itself was intriguing, the main character's indecision absolutely drove me nuts. More than likely won't read the rest of the series, but it was a fairly decent read.
