#Read2025

Reread for #AuthorAMonth August #JudyBlume TBH, I wanted to reread Are You There God, It‘s Me, Margaret, especially since this one is the #ChildrensClassicRead2025 pick for September, but I‘m cheap & this one was available from the library in Ebook or audio, so I went ahead with it. It‘s also my #Roll100 pick for August (#41 Any Reread.) It all came back to me while listening & I cringed & winced my way through, being mad & annoyed ⬇️

DebinHawaii …at Jill & her parents & teachers. I was never bullied or the bully in school but this certainly brought back memories of seeing it happen & Blume captured it well. I liked the interview at the end of the audiobook where Blume explained why she wrote it & it was a quick & easy listen. I‘m still shooting for a AYTGIMM reread at some point. 2w

3.2⭐️ the author begs you to check your trigger warnings with this book, so do I. She describes it as being dark, gritty, and containing a lot of topics that will be triggering and unsettling for some people. I think that‘s water down a little bit, because damn, this got dark really quick. Definitely a horror dark romance and the content is depraved. If that‘s not anything you enjoy, don‘t pick up this book. #41 for #Roll100

PuddleJumper It's so important that trigger warnings be accurate especially for books like that. 3w

Dammit, I need to read the third book immediately. Because this ending was not remotely an ending. I hate that. Good thing I don't have any real plans for the weekend. #41-2025

Another highly recommended, plotless book. It‘s just a story of their lives, with too much detail on the mundane and no depth into the main life events. The FMC is unlikable, and I felt nothing for her when negative things happen to her. This book was much too long and dragged on. The first half was boring, the second half picked up a little bit. Book #41 in 2025

Last year I did the 100 New-To-Me albums challenge. I listened to 100 albums I'd never heard before. You can see them listed in the link below. I'm doing the challenge again this year - any recommendations for albums to check out?

TieDyeDude Aww, #41 Meiko! I've been following her for years, though she hasn't been doing much since becoming a mom.
A couple suggestions I haven't posted about for #Tuesdaytunes:
The Sheepdogs - The Sheepdogs
The Soundtrack of Our Lives - Behind the Music
Free Energy - Love Sign
Alice Merton - S.I.D.E.S.

AmyG Oh wow, Centro-matic. Big fan of Will Johnson. If you liked that album, South San Gabriel is nice, too. Another band with Will Johnson. (edited) 8mo

Kerrbearlib @Deblovestoread I‘m listening to No Mermaid now. I‘m three tracks in and already love it! It‘s like a little piece of the 90s I didn‘t know existed ♥️. I‘ll be writing about in soon on Medium, would you like me to give you a shoutout in the article? 8mo
Deblovestoread Not necessary. My brother introduced me to her years ago. I so glad you love it, too! 💙 8mo

#ReadAway2024

Finished belatedly for #Roll100 in September (#41 Any Book of Stories) I both read & listened to it, having been drawn to it as a #BOTM selection months ago. This is where #BOTM gets it right, selecting Diane Oliver, an author who tragically died in a motorcycle accident in 1966 at just 22 with 4 stories published + 2 more posthumously. This collection is 14 stories & while not all of them were perfect, they are amazingly good & ⬇️

DebinHawaii …while she wrote about the black female perspective in the Jim Crow South in the 60s, they feel fresh & (sadly) still resonate today. It made me look up Oliver (here‘s a good article: https://bittersoutherner.com/feature/2022/the-short-stories-and-too-short-life-o... It was interesting to learn she was part of the Mademoiselle Magazine Summer Guest Editor program in 1964 which I read about in the book tagged below. ⬇️ (edited) 10mo
DebinHawaii … Highly recommended, this will definitely make my Best of 2024 list. (edited) 10mo

Elizabeth's First Kiss | Francine Pascal, Jamie Suzanne

Pickpick

Love is in the air at SVMS! Jessica crushes on Todd, totally oblivious to how he keeps bringing up Elizabeth! Soon everyone has crushes (Steven even has 2 girlfriends!), but Liz tries to stay out of the romance drama, she has a secret—she also has a crush on Todd! The Unicorns start a rumor that Liz is looking for a boyfriend & boys start throwing themselves at her, she only has eyes for Todd. At the bowling alley, Liz & Todd share a (cheek) kiss!

JenlovesJT47 What book does Todd show up in? I can‘t remember. Funny how he‘s in the elementary books. Do they explain the discrepancy when he shows up in middle school? 11mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 He shows up in #41– with the only explanation that he “doesn‘t talk to girls” so I guess that‘s why they stopped talking at some point after 2nd grade, until he starts talking to them again? 🤣🤣🤣 11mo
JenlovesJT47 Ohhh that‘s so funny! I don‘t know if I ever read that one when I was younger but I guess it makes sense, sort of. Public schools have a lot of kids and you wouldn‘t necessarily interact with everyone. 😆 11mo

TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I guess it‘s not totally implausible, but it doesn‘t seem very likely, really, considering starting from this one, he‘s back to being friends with all of their friends! But I am just glad to have him back— he‘s always been a little dull, but still manages to stir up some much drama to come!! 🤣 11mo
JenlovesJT47 Yes, I think Jessica‘s description of him is very fitting - Todd, butter wouldn‘t melt in his mouth, Wilkins. 😅 He annoys me at times, especially in SVH, but he has his moments! 11mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 Hahahaha — I forgot about that description!! But you are right, he can be okay! And any time the name comes up, he‘s always the Todd I picture!🤣 11mo
