Pickpick

This explains the intersection of Christian evangelism and political power. It‘s about taking the pulpit, church, religion, and followers and using them so billionaires can accumulate power worldwide. It affects kids, schools, women, health care, LGBTQIA+ people, people of color, ALL of us and tax dollars. Extreme eye opening and well done.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa That sounds very VERY timely. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa It is just SO good. And yes, has a lot of information we need to know now. Take a look at the long review—it‘s got a ton more detail. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage The long review is even more interesting...darn it, I didn‘t need another MUST READ book to squeeze in, but this looks like one I need to. Great find and review! 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I know—sorry. We all need a longer TBR like a hole in the head. But this one really is worth it. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage Yes it is! And yea, #BookishDilemmas can‘t be helped, and it‘s better than the dreaded alternative, nothing to read. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Indeed it forget what “nothing to read” feels like. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage 😂 Right! Litsy helped banish that one for sure! 4y
Scochrane26 I‘m going to have to add it to my tbr, too. I‘m hoping it will help me understand this issue more. I‘m a Christian but very much on the other side of this group. 4y
Megabooks Stacking! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Scochrane26 I hope you find it helpful. She does make it clear that these aren‘t behaviors of all Christians. But she makes connections between various church networks and these bigger, control-oriented organizations. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Megabooks Cool. I think you‘ll find it fascinating. 4y

Has the sixth extinction started? Is this the end of the human race? Maybe and we'll pretty much only have ourselves to blame.

I'll be getting my final thoughts together this weekend and the book out early next week to @Amiable

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I read this book in 2016, I really liked it...I found it to be a very important read. (edited) 6y

Someone seems to have borrowed my copy of this novel of Chinese-American families in San Francisco, #California and never returned it 😑 Though the book isn't perfect, I was deeply touched by the depiction of fraught mother-daughter relationships in both the book and the movie adaptation. #NoFemmeber

@Billypar @Cinfhen

Reviewsbylola I read this one for a college course I think and I remember really enjoying it. 6y
Billypar Amy Tan is one of those authors that I really want to try, but I'm always unsure if I should start with this one, or try one of the lesser known ones first 🤷 #bookishdilemmas 6y
Cinfhen I heard so much about this novel that it somehow missed the mark for me. I was underwhelmed 😔 @Reviewsbylola @Billypar 6y

Centique 😊 I just love Amy Tan. 6y
batsy @Reviewsbylola @Billypar @Centique This was an absorbing story but I haven't read any of her other novels, which I should fix! 6y
Reggie I love this book. This is such a touchstone for my early 20‘s and a friendship I had back then. A friend and I used to quote the movie all the time to each other. For my birthday that year he gave me a feather, which I still have, “that represents all my hopes and dreams for you this year, Reggie.” In best best presents of all time, that one remains up there till this day. 6y
batsy @Reggie That's so sweet! The best kind of friendships to have ❤️ The book is surprisingly kind of a touchstone for me, as well. Read it as a teen when it was useful for me to understand my own mother... 6y

When you look up from your book and it's 2:30 am and you question whether you should keep going or go to sleep...

Even though I am currently reading 3 books, I am itching to start one of my new ones from this weekend!! I thought Harry Potter would cure my book restlessness, but it hasn't, not fully anyway. I still want to start new stories! I really need to finish what I've already started though. #readallthebooks #bookishdilemmas

This came home with me yesterday. It's so gorgeous! It was immediately stolen by my progeny. I'm proud that I instilled such book lust in her. Also, I'm really going to be sad that this book isn't mine. #bookishdilemmas

Mayread Oh this was my first & therefore favorite. I babysat for a couple that had all of the originals in pristine condition. 8y
