Pickpick

Mamet had such an interesting idea to get celebrities and authors to write about significant food experiences. The audiobook is well done with multiple narrators. My favorites were David Sedaris about hot dogs (but he does not read his own essay) and another person about being depressed after being dumped (on Valentine‘s!) and eating depression Spaghetti-Os. I think recipes are included with the print book, but for me it‘s a #BorrowNotBuy #NFNov

Cinfhen This sounds fun!! I‘ll look to #Borrow 1y
Megabooks @Cinfhen it‘s a great borrow title!! 1y

Quirky, kooky, and a bit weird, this is right in the zone of literary fiction I‘ve been reading lately. A woman gets in a relationship with a junkie from the needle exchange where she volunteers. When he dies, she heads to Taos, NM, a town he thought she‘d enjoy. Each of four interconnected novellas follows the MC‘s relationship with a different oddball resident of Taos. A mild pick, but a fun library backlist find. 👍🏻

Caught up on reviews!!

BarbaraBB Another book with a cleaning glove on its cover. They seems popular lately 🤓 2y
Cinfhen Definitely sounds quirky!! Maybe a #Borrow for me!?! Not 💯 sold 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB so strange, right? But this makes sense because she‘s a maid. 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen maybe?? Not my strongest pick. 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wasn‘t exactly a fan of Irby‘s “We Are Never Meeting in Real Life” when I read it a couple of years ago, but wanted to give her another try. First - her book covers are fabulous. 🤩 Second - she‘s not afraid to talk about the weird, sometimes disgusting things in life, candidly and with fervor and humor. We can all relate to some degree. It‘s oddly comforting. Definitely reading her debut collection “Meaty” next.

AlaMich IMO Meaty is the best! 3y
Cinfhen I was meh about her first collection/ not sure I want to read more…although I heard meaty is VERY FUNNY @AlaMich I‘ll wait for your review, Britt 💚 3y

britt_brooke @Cinfhen “Meaty” is actually her first collection (2013). Which one did you read? Was it the same one I was initially meh about? 3y
Cinfhen Oh, then yes I read her previous book 3y
Cinfhen I honestly don‘t remember/ it was a #Borrow and I bailed 3y

britt_brooke @AlaMich I agree! I actually am finished with it, too, but behind on reviews. 😅 3y

Story set in the little English village after the war is about the middle aged woman who is trying to open the bookshop, and this idea leads to many troubles for her. Sweet and short, with some tragic-comical moments and witty observations. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not my usual pick but it was recommended to me. I'm not vegetarian but the concept of growing 100% real meat (or even just leather), sustainably, without having to raise and slaughter an animal is fascinating. Regardless of your viewpoint on the ethics of eating meat (either for the animals themselves or the environmental impact) this is actually a pretty interesting read. I recommend a #borrow from your library.

Beautiful cover. Awesome concept. Just okay execution. It was a struggle to get through. The writing style just kept throwing me out. I thought the character's relationships developed nicely but I just didn't care that much. Disappointed in this one but I get that I'm not the target audience. Recommend a #borrow on this if you want to give it a try. #ya #yafantasy #steampunk
