#pemberlittens #thewatsonsrealong #chapter14 We are at the 1/2 way point and things are not looking good for Emma getting a husband. Mrs. Ellingham leaves as does Penelope, her husband, and the Nashes. They also take Elizabeth with them to try and get her a husband. This leaves Emma at home with Margaret and to care for her father. Before they all leave she visit Mr. Howard and Mrs. Blake. Mr. Howard is clearly avoiding Emma. She lets them 👇

MicrobeMom Know that she cannot continue Charles‘ lessons and must care for her father. All are understanding except Lord Osborne. He is upset she will not be around and seems to give up on seeing her. Mr. Watsons falls into poor health and Emma spend all her time caring for her and moping. I would mope too if I were her. Mr. Howard needs to get his stuff together and make this right. 2y

julieclair Great meme! I love how Mildred knew something was up the minute Allegra asked her out to lunch. And I‘m proud of Mildred for refusing to take Winnifred off Allegra‘s hands. It is so maddening to see how selfish manipulators like Allegra try to take advantage of the goodness of people like Mildred. Mildred truly is an excellent woman. Allegra… not so much. 🤣 2y

He is verbally and physically abusive. All he cares about is seeing C. He berates Nelly until she agrees to let him see C when E is not home even though mentally she is not well. Heathcliff is just awful!!! And Nelly knows all!

#hpchapteraday #Chapter14 #Rebellion I'm playing catch-up today... I'm having a difficult time finding rebellion in this chapter. Is it where Hagrid knowingly rebels against wizarding laws just so he can have a dragon? Or when Hermione throws out her "rule book" to help Harry with the dragon when Ron can't? I just wasn't sure this was the right topic for this chapter. I'm going to have to listen to the podcast for a better understanding, I think.

MatildaBaggins I looked at it as the start of Harry, Ron, and Hermione's "rebellion" against school rules. It's one of the first instances that shape their characters as rule breakers at Hogwarts, even if it is for the greater good. ? 8y
AndreaReads @MatildaBaggins That is an excellent perspective! Your right because even Hermione is so focused on helping Hagrid that she breaks all those rules without a second thought--something she never would have done a couple chapters ago. 8y

#hpchapteraday #chapter14 #rebellion Hagrid is the focus of the big rebellion in this chapter. He already rebels against normal standards and now he's trying to raise an illegal baby dragon. Harry, Ron, and Hermione have to rebel against the rules in order to arrange for Norbert's departure to save Hagrid.
