Val is always a solid 4 star read for me.
I love her characters, their relationships and the very realistic growth they show.

Karen and her cold cases are quickly becoming my most favourite. The way Val structure these stories makes it page turners even knowing there's no life to save at the end.

This installment had a very intriguing plot and is set during COVID, so every normal thing had to be done slightly differently.

He really believed it was a madcap game. A joke. A dare, played out between old friends.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Enjoy!! I found Master of the Revels to be a somewhat aggravating read, so I'm interested to hear your thoughts 😂 4w

Catching up in the Karen Pirie series, which I really enjoy. This one finds Karen and her team trying to investigate a case during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns. It has a book with a book element too. You can‘t ever tell how everything is going to come together in the end, which works for me in a crime novel.

After a long absence, this was the perfect re-entry into the world of Harry Bosch. And found myself a new character to love, too, in Renee Ballard.

I haven‘t read Michael Connelly in years so I‘m looking forward to starting this one and meeting a new character in Bosch world.

3.5 ⭐️

Short novella. Kate Burkholder and Tomasetti go away for a weekend. They end up intrigued by a missing person case. It was short, and not a whole lot happened. But that's how most novellas in a series are. This was my #BookSpinDouble

😊Happy Reading 😊

Latest Karen Pirie was good fun. Set in lockdown a librarian at the national archives links a crime writers manuscript to the disappearance of a young woman. With lots of nods and winks to the Scottish crime writing community, I think val macdermid enjoyed making the villains fellow crime writers. I enjoy the characters in the series, + it also still feels strange remembering lockdown. Hopefully, a new one soon + maybe a further TV adaptation

kspenmoll Great series! 5mo

Glad I gave her another go. This was her first book and I have really enjoyed it. The characters are very real. Looking forward to reading more with the detective Cormac.

Avanders I love this series! Which one of hers did you read first? 7mo
Jeg @Avanders I read The Murder Rule and just recently What Happened to Nina. I didn‘t warm to either of them. Just so so. Think I‘m a Cormac fan though. 😊 7mo
Avanders Those are the only 2 of hers that I haven‘t read! Good to manage my expectations. 😉 I definitely found the Cormac series to be the best. 7mo

I somehow ended up putting the fourth book in this series on hold at the library (I think from a YouTube recommendation), but decided to return it and start at book 1. It was a good start to detective series, although all the more heartbreaking bc you really get to know the victim through flashbacks. Lots of twists and looking forward to the next book!
